ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN GENERAL DUTIES
Under general supervision, the Electrical Systems Technician will assist in conducting tests including but not limited to isolation and restoration of equipment to facilitate testing to include but not limited to
-
Removal and reinstallation of electrical bus connections
-
Removal and reinstallation of control power leads
-
Removal and reinstallation of Switchgear load / Motor leads
-
Calibration and functional testing of BES and non-BES (Bulk Electric System) relays (switchgear relays, switchgear breaker relays, and switchgear load relays, etc.)
Inspection and testing of relay / metering instrument transformers (PTs, CTs, NGTs) to include but not limited to
-
Turns ratio testing
-
Megger testing
-
winding resistance testing
-
visual inspections
-
functional testing
Testing / inspection of oil filled transformers to include but not limited to
-
Power factor leakage testing ("Doble")
-
Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
-
winding resistance
-
EMSA (Electro Magnetic Signature Analysis)
-
Transformer Oil sampling / Dielectric strength testing
-
Bushing testing
Testing / inspection of Generator output bus to include but not limited to
-
Hi Potential testing
-
Megger / PI testing
-
Phase resistance testing

EMSA
-
Borescope inspection
-
insulator inspection / cleaning

Inspection / testing of connecting links
Testing and inspection of Generator internals to include but not limited to

Electrical Systems Technician I Basic Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma
-
Must pass EEI TECH pre-employment test
-
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
-
The Electrical Systems Technician works in an environment that includes adverse and extreme weather conditions, high voltage, high steam pressure, confined spaces, dirt and noise
-
Requires climbing and working at various heights, lifting and carrying moderately heavy test equipment
-
Incumbents must also be available for call outs and long working hours
EST I– Required Qualifications
- Must be qualified as a Journeyman Electrician in Production, Journeyman I&C Technician or equivalent journeyman positions
Progression Requirements
- EST I - Must progress to an EST II within 24 months of completion of instructor lead training
EST II – Required Qualifications

EST I AND completion of all EST II required training and tasks, OR
-
Qualified as a Journeyman System Protection and Control Technician (Relay Tech) or its equivalent
Bidding Restrictions
- Except for a hardship, as determined by management, employees holding a position in the EST progression must remain in the progression and will not be allowed to bid out for a period of two years after promotion to EST III.
Schedule
-
EST employees will be (S) employees and shall be scheduled either 5-8s or 4-10s, exclusive of meal time, at Management’s option, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Seniority will be respected for the assignment of work schedules. Shift differential shall be paid as provided for in Article X, Section 3.

EST positions are System positions. Extensive travel and overnight stays are possible.
