Job Description:
Dow Jones Newswires is hiring a Publishing Editor for our real-time markets desk in New York on the
morning shift (6:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. ET).
We deliver market-moving business, finance and economic news to professional investors who need speed and accuracy during the trading day.
This is a live desk role. You will monitor multiple feeds (press releases, SEC filings, earnings materials, economic data and reporter alerts), make fast editorial decisions, and keep the news file moving under heavy deadlines.
As a successful candidate, you will:
-
Publish flash headlines in seconds (often in quick series) from press releases, SEC filings, earnings materials and conference calls.
-
Edit and publish short market updates (100–200 words) in ~8–10 minutes, adding essential context (prior period, guidance, deal terms, revisions, “why it matters”).
-
Run the newsflow in busy windows: prioritize, coordinate, avoid duplication, and maintain standards.
-
Assign coverage to reporters and route copy to editors in real time.
-
Headline and edit key economic releases (jobs, inflation, retail sales, housing, manufacturing), including revisions.
-
Use publishing tools and metadata/coding correctly so content reaches the right feeds fast.
-
Support managed automation/GenAI pilots, including editorial QA before publication.
-
Uphold Dow Jones standards, accuracy and ethics.
You Have:
-
Real-time editing/production experience in a live environment (newswires, markets, breaking news, live programming).
-
Strong speed and accuracy: can publish flashes in seconds and turn 100–200 word updates in ~8–10 minutes.
-
Sound market judgment: know what’s market-moving vs noise; can triage and run a live queue.
-
Comfort with numbers and corporate disclosures (press releases, earnings, SEC filings incl. 8-K/10-Q/10-K).
-
Ability to headline and edit key macro data, including revisions and “why it matters.”
-
Clear writing: tight headlines and clean short takes for a professional investor audience.
-
Strong coordination: can assign, route and align work across reporters/editors under deadline.
-
Solid workflow discipline: fluent in newsroom tools, tagging/metadata and house style.
-
High attention to detail (numbers, tickers, attribution, timing) and awareness of the cost of errors.
-
Openness to new tools, including participating in carefully managed automation/GenAI pilots with QA.
Applications close on March 12th or sooner, depending on the volume of applications.
