Cross-functional Leadership

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform:play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

We're building a new 3P Commerce platform that helps game studios bring their in-game items directly to players on Discord. From social shopping and group-driven discovery to seamless mobile buying experiences, we're creating a new way for players to purchase the items they care about, together. This is a foundational bet for Discord - one that sits at the intersection of our social platform, the gaming ecosystem, and a brand new revenue line.

We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to lead the Commerce consumer experience end-to-end. You'll set the product vision and strategy for how players discover and buy 3P in-game items on Discord, drive execution across a cross-functional team, and shape the long-term direction of Commerce as a core part of Discord's platform. This role requires someone who can operate at both the strategic and tactical level - defining what we build and why, while also rolling up their sleeves to ship high-quality product in a fast-moving, ambiguous space.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Set the product philosophy, vision, and multi-quarter roadmap for how players discover and purchase 3P in-game items on Discord, and gain buy-in from leadership on that direction

  • Lead cross-functional execution with a team of engineers, designers, data scientists, and partnerships to build and ship consumer-facing commerce experiences across mobile, desktop, and in-server surfaces

  • Drive our social commerce strategy - including group buying, wishlists, gifting, and other new mechanics that leverage Discord's social graph to create buying experiences you can't get anywhere else

  • Partner with game studios and publishers to deeply understand their player journeys, business goals, and technical constraints, and translate those into product decisions

  • Own key commerce metrics (conversion, revenue, attach rates) and drive a rigorous experimentation culture across funnels, UX, and merchandising strategies

  • Independently make decisions for your product area, navigate tradeoffs across teams (payments, trust & safety, developer platform, marketing), and act as a momentum catalyst for your execution team

  • Clearly communicate roadmaps, priorities, experiments, and results across a wide spectrum of audiences from partner teams to executive levels

  • Shape Discord's long-term strategy for becoming a meaningful commerce destination for games

What you should have

  • 7+ years of experience building and shipping great software, including responsibilities driving prioritization, tradeoffs, and timelines

  • Strong product experience building ecommerce, marketplace, or in-game purchasing experiences with clear business impact

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments - excited about defining the path forward for a nascent product area and then executing on it

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency and effectiveness working closely with engineers on complex systems (payments, fulfillment, identity, account linking)

  • Strong analytical ability to design experiments, organize and leverage data, and drive decisions with metrics

  • Experience owning mobile user experiences where simplicity, trust, and conversion are central

  • Deep understanding of the gaming landscape, player behavior, and what game studios expect from platform partnerships

  • Proven track record of influencing strategy and gaining alignment across senior stakeholders

Bonus Points

  • Experience building or scaling social commerce features

  • Familiarity with game monetization systems, live ops, or in-game item economies

  • Experience working with external partners or third-party developers

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical experience

  • Passion for Discord and gaming
