The Automation Operator is responsible for executing moderately complex oilfield automation tasks, under direct supervision, with a focus on troubleshooting and optimizing systems. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to implement and maintain automation equipment, determining requirements for efficient system operations, and configuring Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) to industry standards. The role oversees contractors, supports project scopes, and troubleshoots complex technical issues, contributing to operational efficiency and safety. The role also builds positive relationships with regulatory representatives, representing the organization in various capacities and ensuring effective communication.

  • Performs moderately complex oilfield automation tasks under direct supervision, specializing in troubleshooting to optimize oilfield automation and communication systems.
  • Collaborates with field personnel, the automation department, and engineering staff to implement and maintain automation equipment in the field.
  • Determines requirements, specifications, and provides recommendations for communication and automation equipment, ensuring effective system operations.
  • Configures Programmable Logic Controllers and Remote Terminal Units, ensuring optimal functionality and adherence to industry standards.
  • Develops comprehensive scopes of work to assess automation and communication projects for internal evaluation and external bidding processes.
  • Supports the oversight of automation and communication contractors, ensuring compliance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of automation equipment, providing valuable support to enhance the integration of technologies in the oilfield environment.
  • Troubleshoots well site automation and communication equipment, demonstrating expertise in resolving complex technical issues.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and resolves complex automation problems, taking corrective action in emergency and non-emergency situations, contributing to operational efficiency and safety.
  • Maintains positive relationships with local, state/province, provincial, and federal representatives, representing the organization in various capacities and ensuring effective communication.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED) is required.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in E&P Operations specializing in areas such as Oilfield Automation, Instrumentation, Production Operations, Process Control Device Integration or a related field. Industry experience is preferred.

Certifications:

  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) (preferred)
  • Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) (preferred)
