The Senior Director of U.S. Federal Government Affairs will lead advocacy efforts to advance U.S. stakeholder engagement and increase testing. Key responsibilities include representing Danaher Diagnostics in meetings with Congress and trade associations on priority platform and Op Co issues, identifying strategic opportunities to influence external stakeholders, and driving impact in a complex, uncertain political environment.
The Senior Director will report to the VP of Global Government Affairs and will join a highly professional and motivated team that is constantly looking for ways to further support Operating Companies and Disease Teams and will be fully remote.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead US federal Government Affairs initiatives to protect and advance patient access to Danaher’s diagnostic Op Co tests and its franchises/Op Co business units before policymakers, elected officials, trade and business associations, as well as other allies and influencers.
- Build the reputation of Danaher Diagnostics US federal Government Affairs as the preferred, go-to trusted partner, honest brokers who drive for constructive solutions. Drive reputation and actions from stakeholder relationships.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key members of federal government agencies and executive offices. This involves proactively identifying key targets, prioritizing resources, networking with their office staff and developing outreach and advocacy/coalition programs to achieve desired results.
- Stay apprised of business goals and strategies to assess impact to Danaher Diagnostics Op Co tests from federal, state/regional, executive and regulatory activities. Proactively consult with appropriate internal business leaders in making such determinations, providing recommendations for formulation of action plans.
- Identify health care, economic and other federal policy developments that could impact Danaher Diagnostics Op Co businesses and operations. Proactively identify opportunities for Danaher Diagnostics to pursue favorable federal government policies and effectively defend Danaher Diagnostics against government policies that could harm shareholder interests. Lead efforts of federal Government Affairs to positively address these policies.
Essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years high level US health policy/government affairs experience or Masters or Doctoral degree with 5+ years of same experience
- Demonstrated understanding of US health policy related to business implications through experience working in US for the US government, in health care advocacy, health policy consulting, or policy think tank.
- Strong strategic and tactical planning skills along with strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
- Existing relationships with government and other stakeholders based on mutual respect. Capable of building and maintaining external networks
- Skilled strategist capable of synthesizing strategies out of complex and possibly contradictory data sources.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel – 20%
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- 10+ years of direct leadership experience
- Demonstrated ability to formulate public sector strategy scenarios and lead cross-functional teams, with or without formal authority, to act on these scenarios.
- Experience in policies related to AI, AMR, Alzheimer’s, Oncology and/or diagnostic testing reimbursement.
The salary range for this role is $200,000- 225,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
