The Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting hands‑on engineering work focused on integrating collaborative automation into real production processes. This role is a great opportunity for students interested in robotics, lean manufacturing, and learning how modern automation is introduced on the shop floor.
This position reports to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering and is part of the Manufacturing Engineering team located in Cortland, NY and will be an on‑site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support the implementation of a UR robot into a production application.
- Attend UR robot training at Ralph W. Earl during the first 1–2 weeks of the internship.
- Assist with testing and process development to qualify the UR robot solution in production.
- Shadow a Lean Conversion (LC) or Standard Work (SW) event.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the following (or similar) fields:
- Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Power Systems Engineering
- Robotics Engineering
- Any related engineering or technical discipline
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role
- Ability to walk the site, perform inspections, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting with appropriate PPE provided.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in robotics, automation, or hands‑on engineering projects.
- Willingness to be hands‑on in a production environment and observe processes directly.
- Basic familiarity with programming or robotics concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
The hourly payrate for this role is $20 per hour.* *This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
