About the Role
Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the Operations team at our Maryfort site, O'Callaghan's Mills, Co. Clare. This is a permanent, on‑site role supporting manufacturing equipment in a regulated environment.
The Maintenance Engineer acts as a technical bridge between Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations, combining hands‑on equipment support with structured problem‑solving and process improvement. The role focuses on improving equipment reliability, availability, and performance while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance standards are upheld.
At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time. This role reports to the Senior Maintenance Engineer and works closely with Maintenance Technicians, Engineers, and Value Stream stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Maintain manufacturing equipment to full design capability through effective preventive and corrective maintenance across mechanical, electrical, automation, and fluid systems.
- Analyse equipment and line performance to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.
- Lead and support structured troubleshooting and root cause investigations using recognised problem‑solving methodologies (e.g. PSP, DIVE).
- Act as a technical escalation point between Maintenance Technicians and Engineering for complex issues.
- Collaborate with Value Stream Managers to prioritise maintenance activities and maximise operational impact.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures, and technical reports.
- Support training and knowledge transfer within the maintenance team, particularly for new or upgraded equipment.
- Initiate and support Engineering Change Controls related to maintenance activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using standard work, Daily Management, and Lean tools.
- Communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
- Level 8 qualification in Maintenance, Engineering, or related discipline OR equivalent relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands‑on experience in maintenance, automation, or equipment support.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues using structured problem‑solving tools.
- Experience working cross‑functionally with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues.
Desirable Experience
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Automated medium‑ to low‑volume manufacturing equipment.
- Regulated environments (cGMP, FDA QSR, ISO standards, including ISO 13485).
- Equipment upgrades, new installations, or robotics/automation projects.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Coaching, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to technicians.
- Maintenance event coordination (planning, execution, impact awareness).
- Training delivery or "train‑the‑trainer" experience.
