The Scientist – Technical Operations (NPI) is responsible for ensuring the successful introduction of new products into Operations. This role carries a high degree of autonomy with deep collaboration across R&D, Operations, Quality and Supply Chain teams throughout the development lifecycle and launch. They will balance technical excellence, ensuring every new product meets quality standards, with speed, helping to ensure that new products are not only robust and production-ready but also brought to market via the most efficient and effective path.
- This position reports to the Technical Operations Manager
- New Product Introduction and is part of the Technical Operations Department located in Newcastle and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Build upon your skills and experience in bringing RUO and IVD (including CDx) products to market by leading key elements of design control, risk management and operational excellence
- Strengthen your ability to drive cross functional execution by collaborating closely with R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Operational teams with a strong focus on coordinating and delivering seamless design transfer and ensuring launch readiness across teams
- Contribute directly to the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for new products; ensuring they are scalable, efficient and aligned with long-term operational strategy
The essential requirements of the job include:
- A relevant scientific qualification (BSc/MSc) in a related subject
- Demonstrated experience of working within a regulated environment, preferably one working in adherence with regulations and standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and 21 CFR Part 820
- Experienced in Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing
- Strong communication and project management skills
- Risk management experience, namely the ability to identify and mitigate risk, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- The Cancer Diagnostic industry
- Operational workflows, associated challenges, and risks within at least one key manufacturing area (e.g., Antibody or Detection System production)
- Technical expertise in Antibody Purification and/or Tissue Culture Production
- Histopathology, immunohistochemical and/or molecular biology techniques
- Preparing and maintaining technical documentation
- Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., PSP, DM, TPI) for structured problem-solving process improvements
- AI‑enabled tools or applications relevant to diagnostics or manufacturing
