Job Summary

Opportunity to join the Conoco Phillips Australia team as an HSE Advisor, Environment.

Position Overview

The HSE Advisor, Environment is a key member of the site HSE Operations team, providing environmental operational management support to Australia Pacific LNG Downstream (APLNG DS) Operations and related activities.

Recognising the operational significance of being a major LNG producer located within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, this role will:

  • Lead by example, fully supporting HSE policies, regulatory compliance, and business goals, programs, and initiatives.

  • Enable operational environmental compliance across APLNG facilities.

  • Provide environmental capability to continually improve operational environmental performance and support informed business decisions that consider environmental risks and controls.

  • Deliver operational environmental programs in line with Corporate, ABU, and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor environmental performance, assure high standards, and play a central role in investigating environmental incidents at APLNG DS facilities.

  • Work closely with site operational personnel and the HSE Team to ensure understanding of environmental management requirements and support implementation of the Operating Management System (OMS).

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide environmental leadership and advice to ensure regulatory compliance and strong environmental performance across operations and projects.

  • Apply strong knowledge of environmental legislation, approvals, and leading practice to manage environmental risks and obligations.

  • Lead onsite environmental programs including air, GHG, water, noise, waste, and mangrove and species monitoring.

  • Facilitate environmental compliance initiatives, support approvals processes, conduct chemical approval reviews, and drive ongoing enhancements of environmental procedures and strategies.

  • Oversee environmental contractors and support operational teams, projects, and procurement with practical technical guidance.

  • Deliver environmental reporting and contribute to audits, inspections, regulatory engagement, and incident investigations.

  • Support operational change, shutdowns, and projects through environmental risk assessments and participation in HAZID/HAZOP/PHAs.

You will bring to the role

  • Cultural alignment with Conoco Phillips’ SPIRIT Values.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum four years’ onsite environmental management experience in heavy industry, resources, or major project environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of Queensland and Australian environmental regulations.

  • Proven technical capability across air, water and waste management programs, including managing specialist contractors.

  • Ability to engage, influence and lead environmental performance improvements across operations, maintenance, projects and procurement.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining HSE Management Systems.

  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills, including supporting regulatory interactions.

  • High level of ownership and accountability, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.

  • Strategic, proactive mindset with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work environments, schedules and priorities.

Preferred

  • Experience managing certification of Integrated Management Systems and/or Environmental Management Systems to ISO 14001.

  • Good understanding of Queensland Work Health and Safety legislation.

  • Experience in emergency response and incident investigation.

  • HSE auditing experience with auditor qualifications.

  • Understanding of oil and gas and/or LNG facility operations and maintenance.
