Job Summary
Alaska Overview:
The Alaska segment primarily explores for, produces, transports and markets crude oil, natural gas and NGLs. We are the largest crude oil producer in Alaska and have major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay, Kuparuk and Western North Slope asset areas. Additionally, we are one of Alaska’s largest owners of state, federal and fee exploration leases, with approximately one million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2024. Alaska operations contributed 14 percent of our consolidated liquids production and two percent of our consolidated natural gas production.
Alpine Overview:
The Alpine Field, located approximately 34 miles west of the Kuparuk Field, is one of the largest conventional onshore oil fields developed in North America in the past 25 years. Alpine is a model for future oil developments, as directional drilling and other innovations minimize its environmental footprint. Field installations include one central production facility that separates oil, natural gas, and water.
Position Overview:
The Alaska North Slope Wells Safety Specialist will report to the Wells HSE Director and will be accountable for the delivery of Health and Safety services to the Wells organization. This position will include applying knowledge to personal and process safety, communicating Alaska Safety Handbook requirements, reviewing proposed activity and issuing applicable permits, evaluating employee exposure potentials through work place assessments or quantitative measurements; identification, evaluation, and mitigation of chemicals, physical, and biological agents used, stored, or otherwise present in the workplace; and working with other teams to reduce exposure to the extent possible. You will be responsible for a wide variety of health and safety programs with an overall goal to mitigate potential hazards and protect workers. Your overall responsibility will be to provide health and safety expertise to field operations while supporting the North Slope Health, Safety, Environmental and Medical team.
This position will be North Slope-based working a rotating schedule (14 days on / 14 days off).
Your responsibilities may include:
- HSE onboarding of new to position workers including Incident Free Culture, PrepAK, Safety-in-Motion, or Slip Simulator
- Contractor HSE Assessments
- Industrial Hygiene
- Hazard Communication
- Hearing Conservation
- Respiratory Protection
- Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) compliance
- Hydrogen Sulfide training & compliance
- Bloodborne Pathogen training & inspection
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training, selection & inspection
- Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) surveys
- Radiation safety
- HSE Assessments
- Attend & contribute to weekly Safety Meetings
- Investigation and Corrective Action development
- Identification and mitigation of HSE deficiencies
- Application of COP HSE Procedures
- Procedural development
- Contractor oversight
- Facilitate Operational input into HSE programs
- Provide assistance in planning and conducting drills
- Be active and visible in the field
- Support and help accomplish Team and BU goals
- Participate in emergency response as part of the HSE Incident Command or if needed, as field safety, and development initial emergency response guides
Physical Demands & Work Environment (with or without accommodation)
- Work in temperature extremes and adverse weather conditions
- Work both in and out of a company-provided vehicle
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and using hand tools
- This is a safety-sensitive position
Basic/Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Current/valid driver's license
- Bachelor's degree in Occupation Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Physical or Biological Science, or related HSE field or foreign equivalent
- 3 or more years of oil and gas safety and health experience
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work in a remote work location on a 2 week on/2 week off work schedule
Preferred:
- 5 or more years of oil and gas safety and health experience
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by American Board of Industrial Hygiene
- Technical writing to develop policies and procedures as well to report findings and provide recommendations
- Mechanically inclined to work with various equipment and troubleshoot, e.g., direct reading equipment
- Knowledge of health standards and regulations, monitoring strategy and methodology, and toxicological effects
- Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right
- Listens actively and invites dialogue for exchanged views, then influences and acts to drive performance and achieve results
- Builds strong relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
