The Transportation Operating Supervisor position is responsible for overseeing auto mechanics to ensure the safe and efficient maintenance and repair of the Companys fleet, which includes light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as equipment. The role aims to meet the requirements of user organizations to maximize fleet availability and minimize repair costs. Key responsibilities also include implementing programs and activities to achieve and maintain a "zero harm" safety culture as well as creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace and team.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 Years Related work experience or
- Associate's Degree and 4 Years Related work experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 Years Related work experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Minimum two years of experience supervising staff responsible for fleet automotive and equipment repair, required.
- Minimum of two years of experience with fleet vehicles and equipment, required.
- Minimum of three to five years' experience as a professional mechanic, required.
- Two years' experience working in the field of fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs, preferred.
- Two years' experience using vehicle and auto parts management inventory software, preferred.
- Two years' experience leading and building dynamic teams, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
- Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Core Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of auto mechanics and coordinate maintenance, repair, and inspection of fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure efficient operation of parts/supply room such that materials, supplies and equipment stock meet operational needs.
- Ensure work activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner and that repairs conform to manufacturer's requirements.
- Approve expenditures for labor, contractor services, material, supplies and equipment, within authorized limits.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the local bulk fuel station.
- Participate in automotive committees/task forces and provide feedback on quality and productivity improvements, training, etc.
- Ensure the efficient use of resources by managing over time, reviewing actual vs. budget and manage spending.
- Accountable for garage equipment, housekeeping, and compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
- Respond to storms, heat and other emergencies as required.
