Con Edison, a multibillion-dollar energy utility, is leading the clean energy transition in New York City and Westchester County. We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars annually to integrate distributed resources into our electric and gas systems, support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and scale adoption of energy efficiency and clean heating technologies across our customers.
The Engineering Manager will lead the technical group responsible for building and governing the engineering foundation that enables energy efficiency and demand management programs to scale. This role owns the development and application of engineering methodologies, savings calculators, and technical tools used to assess energy savings opportunities, standardize approaches, and ensure highquality project and vendor reviews. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, can operate independently through ambiguity, and effectively leads teams to execute and deliver technical products with clear, defensible assumptions.
Required Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, and Minimum seven years of experience in Engineering or energy efficiency focused.
Relevant Work Experience- Minimum of seven years of relevant work experience, is Required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop calculators, tools, and standardized methodologies for energy savings analysis and program application, is Required.
- Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC+R, DHW, controls, envelope) and engineering analysis approaches, including transparent, reviewable calculation documentation, is Required.
- Proven ability to operate with high independence, take ownership, and deliver results while leading and collaborating effectively with a team, is Required.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, including technical writing and oral presentations, is Required.
- Strong interpersonal skills must be a team-oriented individual, is Required.
- Excellent time-management, organizational skills, detail oriented and flexible in handling multiple assignments and ambiguity while being able to meet deadlines, is Required.
- Must be able to make sound decisions using traditional and creative solutions while measuring the risks and impacts of his/her actions, Required.
- Must demonstrate a high regard for personal accountability and focus on the importance of delivering advanced products and services to our customers in a dynamic environment, Required.
- Must have strong computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other related database management tools, Required.
- Experience managing staff, projects, processes, contracts and vendors, is Preferred.
- Experience with building energy modeling and/or accepted calculation approaches (e.g., temperature bin methods, whole-building simulation workflows) where applicable, is Preferred.
- Working knowledge of NYS TRM application for measure savings, including governance of assumptions and standardization across reviewers, is Preferred.
- Experience managing inter-disciplinary teams, is Preferred.
- Experience with vendor contract procurement, is Preferred.
- Oracle proficiency, Preferred.
- eTRM proficiency, Preferred.

Licenses and Certifications- Driver's License Required

Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Core Responsibilities- Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of engineering tools, calculators, and standardized savings methodologies used across programs to quantify energy and demand impacts and support program scale.
- Establish clear, repeatable engineering approaches and documentation standards to ensure calculations are transparent, reviewable, and consistent.
- Provide technical leadership to assess emerging technologies/strategies for current program participation and future program inclusion.
- Serve as a technical resource to program teams and business development, translating technical requirements into implementable guidance and consistent program execution.
- Maintain effective daily communication with leadership, program implementation, and business development/account teams to ensure a feedback loop and alignment on technical direction.
- Support business development by understanding customer needs, construction context, and how measures and technologies support customer outcomes.
- Manage procurement and performance of contractors/vendors supporting technical reviews and deliverables, including contract administration, budgets, and invoice review consistent with corporate policies and procedures.
- Represent the department in technical discussions with stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and other entities; support meetings with Department of Public Service staff as needed.
- Perform special projects and related assignments as required to support operations and activities, including emergency support as needed.
- Manage and develop staff, including direct oversight of contractors and technical team members.
- Own hiring, work delegation, training, and coaching to ensure effective delivery and skill development.
- Lead performance management, including goal setting, feedback, evaluations, and addressing performance issues.
