The LNG Project Specialist will provide Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) support to help facilitate a zero harm and 100% compliance culture. This shall be done supporting work activities, including construction, operation, maintenance and retirement of our energy systems, are conducted safely and in a manner that complies with all federal, state and local regulations in addition to Company procedures and protocols.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years' relevant experience or
- Associate's Degree and 5 years' relevant experience or
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 years' relevant experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Successful completion of the Massachusetts Fire Academy NGA LNG course, required.
- Must be a highly motivated individual. Demonstrate a strong Commitment to Excellence, and understand the vital importance of personal accountability, required.
- Safety and environmental incident response, required.
- Ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel, required.
- Completion of Company CEHSP program as soon as possible. Successful completion of position-specific EH&S as applicable, required.
- Demonstrated ability to obtain results, required.
- Must be able to develop concepts into successful safety and environmental programs, required.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, regulatory agencies, and various levels of management, required.
- Must possess strong leadership skills, initiate and champion change, and have the ability to influence and persuade others in order to improve work practices/processes, required.
- Must be able to deliver exemplary customer service and develop a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edison's Corporate Values, required.
- Must demonstrate proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and/or an ability to quickly become proficient with database packages including Microsoft Office, EMIS, SHIMS, and Maximo, required.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed
- Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for employees, and provide advice, counsel, and information on EH&S matters to all levels within the operating area.
- Adhere to the Company's EH&S programs and provide support to ensure that safe practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure progress against organizational goals on an ongoing basis, ensuring that corrections are made as needed to maintain compliance.
- Perform EH&S incident analysis; complete entries into the Safety and Health Information Management System (SHIMS) and fulfill reporting requirements (as required).
- Work with operating managers, planners, supervisors, and field crews to continuously improve our safety culture and compliance with Environment and Health standards.
- Provide EH&S-related communications and information at meetings, in the field, and through safety talks and tailboard sessions to ensure consistency across all operational areas.
- Assist in the implementation of plans, programs, and strategies that effectively protect employees and the public from potential hazards related to our operations, as well as negative environmental impacts. This includes leading efforts to integrate human performance initiatives into our work practices.
- Assist in coordinating the company's response to environmental incidents such as spills and releases, ensuring that all reporting, remediation, response operations, and waste management are conducted safely and in compliance with all regulatory and company requirements.
- Perform contractor oversight activities to measure compliance and EH&S performance in accordance with applicable procedures and the Contract Administration Manual. Oversight activities include pre-work review of environmental, health, and safety plans (eHASP) for acceptance.
- Lead a collaborative team on an annual basis, which will involve operations and technical experts to review at least one EH&S program area to determine the overall operational compliance with said program.
- Perform other related assignments as required, including response to emergencies 24 hours/ 7 days a week.
