RTX BBN Technologies solves challenging, real-world problems for our customers in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community through research, exploration, development, and prototyping. Our team specializes in developing next-generation Electronic Warfare (EW) and related RF sensor system technologies by combining a fundamental understanding of the underlying EM physics including complex electromagnetic interactions and signatures, and propagation phenomenology, with a deep expertise in analysis, statistical signal processing, optimization, and machine learning.

We are seeking a graduate student for a summer internship position with our electronic warfare (EW) team in our Arlington, VA office. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with an ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team solving complex technical challenges. You will work closely with highly skilled professionals in areas of signal processing algorithms, modeling and simulation, and firmware development.

What you will do:

  • Develop next-generation EW capabilities

  • Analyze statistical signal processing, optimization, and machine learning

  • Work with extraordinarily skilled team members, from project leadership to fellow interns.

Qualifications you must have:

  • U.S. citizenship is required as this position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance when sponsored by the company.

  • Currently completing a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field

  • Some programming experience in C/C++, MATLAB, or Python

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Embedded programming• Signal processing, statistical signal processing

  • RF systems and RF mobile communications, distributed systems

  • Familiarity with collaborative software development tools such as Git and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira), and software development workflows

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
