As a Cardiovascular Technician, your responsibilities will include performing both non-invasive and invasive procedures, such as echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, cardiovascular catheterization, stent insertion, balloon angioplasty and implanting pacemakers. In this role, you will also ensure patients feel informed, relaxed and safe during each appointment. While making a difference in the lives of patients and their families, you will also have the opportunity to explore advanced positions and educational resources offered by Cleveland Clinic.
This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working varying days and on-call shifts based on unit needs between 7: 00 a.m. -- 5:30 p.m., approximately 1–2 days per week.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide guidelines for RCVT/RCIS roles and functions in the Cath Lab.
-
Assist nursing and medical caregivers in providing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
-
Perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures.
-
Perform pre-procedure preparation, post-procedure care and patient disposition in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.
-
Perform basic EKG interpretation, single and 12-lead ST segments analysis for ischemia/injury patterns and recognition of arrhythmias.
-
Recognize and interpret EKG changes related to all electrophysiology procedures, such as mapping, ablating, and implanting of cardiac resynchronization devices.
-
Perform arterial and venous pressure monitoring, sampling and basic interpretation.
-
Perform three-dimensional mapping systems and the principles of cardiac resynchronization therapy.
-
Document procedures completely and accurately including medications and supplies.
-
Perform patient observation.
-
Assist team members in acute cardiac care, including resuscitation and related therapeutic effects.

Set up scrub procedures in both the Cath and EP lab.
-
Prepare all instruments/equipment for decontamination following universal precautions and take them to the sterilization department.

Restock procedure room when cases are completed for the day.
-
Always maintain patient, medical record, department and employee confidentiality.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
Cardiovascular Lab Technology Program Certificate or equivalent education deemed acceptable by RCIS and RCES credentialing body
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Certified or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT)
-
Cardiology, Interventional radiology and/or Cath lab experience
Physical Requirements:
-
Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.
-
Able to lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
-
Stooping, pushing and pulling required when moving patients or equipment into position for surgery.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
