Job Details
Earn As You Learn! This position offers aspiring nurses the opportunity to gain hands-on patient care experience while earning their degree, with scheduling flexibility designed to support academic commitments. As a Student Nurse PCNA, nursing students will build confidence and familiarity through direct interaction with patients and fellow caregivers across clinical units, while benefiting from mentorship and guidance from experienced nursing professionals. This role serves as an excellent pathway into a full-time nursing career at Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, as needed based on the departmental needs and availability. Hours during weekends and holidays will be available to work.
These positions are for active RN nursing students that have completed at least one clinical rotation. All other candidates are encouraged to apply for our other nursing support roles.
At this time, the following specialties are open and able to support student nurse placements:
Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Units
Cardiac Emergency Services Float Pool
Neurological Units, including our Neuro ICU
Advanced Internal Medicine
Digestive Disease and Urological Units
Acute Care Lymphoma, Leukemia & Bone Marrow Transplant Units
THESE ROLES ARE FOR OUR MAIN CAMPUS LOCATION ONLY
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
-
Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.

Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
-
Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
-
A high school diploma or GED
-
Currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
-
Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
-
Completion of at least one nursing program acute care clinical rotation.
Responsibilities:
-
Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to RN.
-
These may include but are not limited to vital signs, weights, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, application of external monitoring devices, and removal of urinary Foley Catheter.

Assists with keeping patient rooms clean & orderly.

Demonstrates a positive, concerned and sensitive response in the workplace.

Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff.

Ability to read, write and speak English and to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform basic clinical mathematics.
-
Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner.

Maintains personal growth and development through the ongoing process of formal and informal education.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

Medium Work

Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
