The Pharmacy Technician – Outpatient supports a high-volume pharmacy filling approximately 1,000 prescriptions per day and is part of a growing operation with planned expansion of the pharmacy footprint. This role partners closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, patients and other hospital caregivers to support daily workflows. Responsibilities include assisting patients at the register, filling prescriptions and responding to phone calls and emails. Caregivers are drawn to this role for the strong team environment and the meaningful connections built while supporting patients.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work various shifts between 7: 00am and 7:00pm Monday through Friday and between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Saturdays. PRN caregivers would be required to work at least 3 shifts per month with 2-3 days of availability per week preferably. Additional shifts are available.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the Registered Pharmacist.
  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.
  • Fill medications carts daily.
  • Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy department.
  • Repackage bulk medications.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National Health Career Association (NHA)
  • AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee. If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior outpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.
