The Credit Financing team is seeking a VP/Director-level structurer to join its team to assist in the structuring, rating and distribution of lending facilities backed by portfolios of corporate credit. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience with structured finance and capital markets transactions, particularly in relation to CLOs, collateralized fund obligations (CFOs), rated note feeders and NAV facilities.
The Credit Financing team is part of the Spread Products division within Markets. The business focuses on customized financing solutions for strategic clients including large, well-known alternative investment managers. These facilities are backed by a range of assets, including broadly syndicated and private credit loans to corporate borrowers, and are primarily retained for Citi’s portfolio but may also be securitized into the capital markets or syndicated to other institutional investors.
The team is small, highly collaborative and has built and maintained a market-leading lending franchise for close to two decades. The candidate will have exposure to experienced market participants and constant interactions with other teams across the Bank (businesses specializing in other asset classes, risk, operations, sales, legal, tax and accounting teams).
The candidate will work on all aspects of a transaction lifecycle, including origination, negotiation, documentation, deal closing, ongoing maintenance and risk management, with a focus on interacting with rating agencies to assist in obtaining a third party rating on a given facility. The candidate will take ownership for successful delivery of our value proposition to our clients, both as lender as well as, in some cases, in the role of lead arranging bank. The candidate will get to understand and set up complex fund and lending structures and assure that our facilities maximize profitability, operational flexibility and efficiency while minimizing risk.
Key Responsibilities
-
Serve as the key resource on the deal team for lending projects, including drafting transaction term sheets, client negotiation, rating agency interaction and review of transaction documentation
-
Identify key structural, credit / market risk, and operational factors present in current and prospective credit facilities, and clearly articulate strategies to minimize and manage these risks and present them to our risk partners
-
Work with potential syndicate partners to distribute risk
-
Originate and develop innovative financing solutions for Citi’s clients with a focus on more complex transactions
-
Develop new products and structures to enable the business to more efficiently distribute risk to third parties including insurance investors
-
Coordinate periodic reviews with borrowers, as well as internal and external partners, to stay abreast of developments in each underlying portfolio and the broader market
Minimum Qualifications:
-
At least 5 years of relevant experience in structuring and/or rating complex structured products
-
Solid understanding of the corporate credit market, private credit, leveraged loans, corporate bonds, CLOs, CFOs, rated note feeders and other asset backed securities
-
Knowledge of private debt funds, SPV/SPE and lending structures, as well as a strong understanding of alternative assets including direct lending, private equity and other structured instruments
-
Candidate must have strong cash-flow modeling skills and experience in analyzing complex debt structures
-
Candidate should have a good foundation in financial statement analysis in a corporate debt context
-
Experience working on a sell-side securitization desk or rating agency preferred
-
Good communication and presentation skills
-
Candidate must be a team player
