Overview:
The Global Lending Operations (“GLO”) Balance Sheet Controls Sr Analyst role is responsible for performing controls to support the accuracy and completeness of data and balances that feed Citi’s Financial Statements. The role holder will perform daily and monthly Balance Sheet Control processes to substantiate general ledger and subledger balances, reconcile subledger activity to the general ledger to ensure both systems are in-sync, and support the recording of period-end adjustments and journal entries impacting financial reporting. This role will also partner with reporting teams to produce operational metrics and data analytics. Additionally, this role will support the creation and enhancement of Balance Sheet Control processes and controls by documenting and implementing procedures. This role holder will also working closely with key stakeholders to resolve accounting breaks within reporting systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform balance sheet controls related to the end-to-end commercial loan lifecycle
- Support activities and processes related to the reconciliation, substantiation, remediation, and monitoring of balance sheet accounts to ensure compliance with policies related to Balance Sheet Reconciliation and Substantiation processes at Citi
- Performs general ledger and sub ledger reconciliations to source system data to ensure all ledger systems reconcile
- Support the recording of period-end adjustments and journal entries impacting financial reporting into the general ledger and subledger
- Performs account reconciliations to monitor and resolve unclassified ledger transactions in the general ledger and sub-ledger, escalating issues as appropriate
- Partner with relevant stakeholders for the assessment, validation, and recording of period-end adjustments impacting financial reporting
- Partner with stakeholders within GLO, Finance, including Controllers and Balance Sheet Governance, and relevant risk and controls groups to support Balance Sheet Controls
- Partner with relevant teams to produce critical financial reporting and risk metrics
- Partner on technology enhancements to automate controls, reduce risk, and enhance data flows from GLO product processors to the ledger
- Support discussions with internal and external auditors and related risk and control groups related to balance sheet processes and controls
- Participates in and supports the implementation of projects and process improvement initiatives, including enhancements to reconciliation, substantiation, and data flows
- Ability to build strong relationships and interact at all levels in the organization
- Ability to analyze data and trends, and present findings to management and relevant stakeholders
- Works closely with immediate team and internal stakeholders to meet business needs
- Appropriately assessing risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of relevant experience within accounting or financial services industry
- English proficiency (spoken and written) required
- Knowledge of loan operations, commercial lending products, transactions, processes, product processors, and their impact to the general ledger
- Experience with general ledger and subledger systems (e Recon, Full Suite preferred)
- Familiarity and experience with subledger and general ledger reconciliations
- Experience with commercial lending technology and related reconciliation and accounting flows (Loan IQ, Flexcube, Transaction Lifecycle Management preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Familiar with Citi’s financial and accounting policies and procedures
- Experience with accounting related processes and controls
- Understanding of financial reporting requirements and disclosures for commercial lending products
- Understanding of SOX requirements and related controls
- Applies judgment when interpreting data, preparing workpaper, and presents findings to management
- Demonstrate ability to track delivery of multiple priorities across multiple owners
- Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word) is required
- Involved in the coaching, training, and providing guidance and support to junior team members
- Demonstrate ability to synthesize complex information, translate into business goals, and drive results with a high sense of urgency and ownership
- Demonstrate ability to drive process improvement
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Finance or Accounting degree preferred, or similar discipline
- CPA preferred
