Associate Senior Counsel – PBM
Evernorth seeks an experienced attorney to join the legal team supporting the rebate, formulary development, and value based solutions business units of its pharmacy benefit management (PBM) business. In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice on a variety of topics related to Evernorth’s PBM business, including day-to-day legal guidance regarding the PBM’s relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers. This position requires a general working knowledge of common PBM and related laws and experience with health care fraud and abuse laws, including the Anti-Kickback Statute. Contract negotiation experience with a track record of moving deals forward will be highly valued.
Essential Functions:
- Analyze and support arrangements between the PBM and pharmaceutical manufacturers, including drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts.
- Provide day-to-day legal counseling on operational and transactional matters relating to the PBM business.
- Work cross-functionally in analyzing complex transactions and to identify legal issues impacting the organization.
- Support strategic initiatives and development of new programs.
- Provide support to other legal team members as needed to manage complex legal matters.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from ABA accredited law school/Bar membership required.
- At least 6+years of experience in a corporate legal department or law firm, with relevant experience supporting pharmacy benefit management (PBM) or other healthcare-related businesses.
- Experience in fraud, waste, and abuse laws, particularly the Anti-Kickback Statute, strongly preferred.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
- Possesses strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to make prudent, strategic, and pragmatic decisions, communicate effectively, and work well with others in a diverse team environment to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to professionally handle multiple contracts and projects in a thoughtful manner with advanced time management skills.
- Highly collaborative; excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to distill complex regulatory issues into practical, actionable legal advice.
- Intellectual flexibility; adept at reassessing priorities in real-time to ensure internal and external expectations are met.
- Ability and desire to learn new subject areas and willingness take on new responsibilities.
- Strong ability to support business leaders and to facilitate solutions.
- Hybrid role with a preference for candidates located near an office; open to remote candidates based on experience and business need.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 157,100 - 261,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
