The Opportunity:

12-16 Month Co-op/Internship starting in May 2026
The Optical Engineer Co-Op will contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced optical networking systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading telecommunications company, working alongside experienced engineers on innovative projects.

Job Responsibilities:

• You will push the boundaries of automation, speed, and data processing of an optical network using Python, and/or MATLAB.
• You will play a role in crafting, developing, testing, maintaining, and improving various algorithms used to control a system of optical hardware and an optical network simulation software.
• You will develop instrumentation and characterization routines to analyze signal and noise propagation physics of optical modems and line systems.
• You will collaborate with a multi-functional team of designers, develop interactive web interfaces for your instrumentation routines and perform version control using Git.

The Must Haves:

• Working towards completion of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Physics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or other similar languages, with experience in networking protocols such as REST, or gNMI.
• Exposure Linux development environments.
• Foundational knowledge of physics, optics, and communications theory

Pay Range: The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00
