HIGH LEVEL JOB DESCRIPTION/SCOPE:

In consultation with the State Government Affairs Central General Manager, the position will develop, manage and execute government relations and advocacy strategies to achieve key business outcomes in the 15-state Central Region. Broadly, the successful candidate will work to mitigate legislative, regulatory and political risks facing its business lines across the region.  The region includes Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

•  Develop and maintain relationships with key government officials and staff, Chevron's contract lobbyists and other industry lobbyists, representatives of other businesses, business/industry trade associations, and relevant NGO's.

•  Participate in planning and executing direct, industry and coalition sponsored advocacy efforts that align with the company's positions, priorities and interests.

•  Coordinate, develop and execute advocacy strategies to produce desired outcomes on legislative and regulatory proposals and issues impacting Chevron's operations.

Required Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in government relations/advocacy/litigation strategy: Minimum 10 years related work experience in managing complex government & public affairs and legal issues, such as state legislation, regulations, environmental, tax and litigation.

• Demonstrated work experience in -- and extensive knowledge of -- the oil & gas industry issues, including issues related to upstream, midstream, downstream and/or biofuels.

• Experience in communications: Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communications, particularly the ability to effectively communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.

• Leadership skills: Demonstrated ability to successfully lead team projects and to work collaboratively with diverse groups.

• Education: Bachelors’ degree (Political Science or Law degree preferred)

• Location: Successful candidate will be required to work from Denver, Colorado.

Preferred experience:

• Demonstrated knowledge of legislative, regulatory and political issues related to Colorado.

• Established working relationships with key state government and agency officials

• Demonstrated experience in managing political contributions, lobbying and issues management 

• Extensive contact network
 

Travel: 25-30% travel required

Relocation Options:  

Relocation is not offered for this role. Only local candidates will be considered.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
