This position is for Counsel or Senior Counsel, Compliance Law, based in Houston, Texas. The Compliance Law Team houses Chevron’s anticorruption, trade and political law attorneys. This Counsel or Senior Counsel position will advise on anticorruption compliance legal matters and issues affecting Chevron globally. The ideal candidate will be proficient in global anticorruption, antibribery and anti-money laundering laws, supported by a solid foundation in general transactional and/or litigation practice. Counsel or Senior Counsel should also be open to supporting other Compliance Law matters as needed, including competition law and political law. Experience advising compliance organizations, particularly within the oil and gas sector, is highly beneficial. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a collaborative and client‑focused approach, and sensitivity to cultural differences across Chevron’s global footprint. Counsel or Senior Counsel must be able to deliver practical, business‑oriented legal advice in complex and evolving operating environments. They will be expected to develop a deep understanding of Chevron’s business activities, work closely with Legal and Compliance teams to interpret and implement compliance requirements, and support effective risk mitigation across the enterprise.
Required Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Texas (other U.S. jurisdictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. University
- Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law
- Demonstrated experience advising clients on anticorruption, antibribery and anti-money laundering laws. A solid foundation in general transactional and/or litigation matter is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented and client‑focused environment, are essential
- The candidate must demonstrate diplomacy and a high degree of cultural sensitivity
- The role requires the ability to deliver business‑focused, timely, and cost‑efficient legal advice in a complex operating and regulatory environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting and providing practical legal advice to compliance organizations preferably in the oil and gas or energy sector
- Willing to travel internationally when and if required.
Relocation Options:
Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
International Considerations:
Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
