Job Description:Business Summary:The VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Division enables organizations around the world to run their business critical and modern applications in a secure, resilient, and cost-efficient manner.
The Storage and Data Protection group is responsible for the full data lifecycle across the VMware stack, covering primary, secondary, and hyperscaler storage, as well as cloud-native storage for modern applications. The group delivers a comprehensive suite of data services, data protection, and recovery solutions, ensuring that data—whether in virtual machines or containers—remains resilient, accessible, and secure across the private and hybrid cloud.
Job Description:We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the engineering teams building and operating our Cloud Native Storage (CNS) platform that powers containerized workloads across Kubernetes environments. You will oversee the design, reliability, scalability, performance , CSI drivers , volume provisioning frameworks, persistent volume management and data services (snapshotting, replication, encryption, policy).
This is a deep technical leadership role that combines distributed systems, storage internals, Kubernetes architecture and organizational leadership to deliver high performance, highly reliable storage solutions.
Job Role and Responsibility:

Lead a high-performing technical team through the entire product lifecycle, from conception and design to deployment and continuous improvement.

Define technical roadmaps, managing resource allocation, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability, and ensuring all product deliverables meet stringent quality standards and align with the overarching company vision.

Mentor ICs and managers; drive engineering excellence, clarity, ownership, and inclusion.

Partner with Product Management and executive leadership to define product roadmaps, technical requirements and project milestones.

Work collaboratively with other Engineering organizations during the development, launch, and continuing refinement of VMware container technologies.

Oversee the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), covering the design, coding, testing, and deployment phases for scalable container solutions.

Take ownership and provide leadership for the overall quality of deliverables, collaborating closely with quality engineering teams.

Partner with Customer Engineering and Support teams to understand customer usage and pain points. Proactively work on mitigating customer issues.

Drive the development of Cloud Native Storage (CNS) capabilities on Storage Platforms ensuring Kubernetes-compliant persistent volume management via the CSI (Container Storage Interface) driver.

Document best practices and architectural references in developing and deploying product solutions.

Lead the engineering efforts around Persistent Volume (PV) & Persistent Volume Claim (PVC) workflows, dynamic provisioning, topology, volume expansion, and performance tuning.
Required Skills:
- 3–5+ years managing senior engineers/engineering managers; 8–12+ years total in distributed systems, storage, or platform engineering.
- Around 10+ years of hands-on experience in developing and maintaining enterprise software
- Strong understanding of cloud native storage, CSI architecture, PV/PVC lifecycle, Kubernetes Storage Classes, and dynamic provisioning.
- Experience building or operating storage systems at scale: SDS, block storage, file storage, or distributed storage solutions.
- Must have a deep understanding of the CNCF landscape, specifically Kubernetes (deployment, scaling, security, and storage).
- Demonstrate a strong capacity for self-starting and maintaining productivity with minimal day-to-day oversight. This involves taking ownership of tasks, proactively identifying next steps, and solving problems independently to drive projects forward, requiring the ability to manage complex assignments from inception to completion without constant guidance.

Additionally, we would like:
- Familiarity with VMware products will be an advantage.
- Domain expertise in virtualization and storage technologies.
- Experience with v Sphere CNS / Supervisor CSI Driver (if VMware-based).
- Knowledge of snapshot APIs, backup/restore frameworks
Qualification:
BS/MS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 10+ years of experience.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is $163,800 - $262,000
This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
