Job Description:

The Senior Process & Process Safety Engineer provides technical leadership in process engineering, process safety, and risk management to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations across the site. The role serve as the domain expert for process operations, design and process safety, delivering technical recommendations, guidance, and assurance activities to support safe operations and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the site domain expert for process engineering providing technical expertise, guidance, and day-to- day troubleshooting for process operations, including support to operating envelopes, debottlenecking, process modelling, and optimisation studies.
  • Provide process engineering and process safety assurance for site capital projects, ensuring safe design, regulatory compliance, conformance to standards and risk-based decision-making.
  • Lead and facilitate Design Reviews and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA): HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, Bow-Tie, What-If; ensure actions are tracked to closure with risk-based prioritisation.
  • Provide assurance and technical governance on Management of Change, Operating Envelope, risk register, pressure relief systems and other safety-critical processes.
  • Own and maintain the site’s risk management framework, including oversight of the site risk register and integration with the centralised risk processes.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritise risk-reduction and barrier assurance actions; provide process and process safety engineering input into related projects.
  • Maintain the Safety Case/MHF documentation, ensuring barriers, Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), and Performance Standards are current and effective.
  • Regulatory Interface - act as the primary liaison with the Regulator, ensuring transparent communication and alignment with statutory requirements.
  • Lead and participate in process safety incident investigations and support root cause analysis to strengthen site learning and operating discipline.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and operations personnel on process engineering principles, hazard evaluation, and risk management.
  • Support long-term technical strategy, risk transformation initiatives, and alignment with engineering technical practices. This includes driving continuous improvement in the areas of Process Engineering and Process Safety area.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in operating oil & gas/refining/petrochemical facilities with demonstrable process safety and operations support leadership.
  • Proven track record facilitating or leading HAZOP/LOPA and delivering relief/flare system design and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with Aspen HYSYS (or equivalent), relief sizing tools, LOPA tools (e.g., PHA-Pro/PHAWorks), Bow Tie, and SIS verification.
  • Strong familiarity with MHF regulatory frameworks, Safety Case development, and barrier management.
  • Experience with commissioning/start-up, and brownfield/greenfield modifications under robust MOC.
  • Experience collaborating with regulators and independent verifiers.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
