Let me tell you about the role
We are seeking a highly capable Technical Writer to play a critical role in scaling our internal developer platform across the engineering while supporting the full engineering journey – from onboarding in bp to shipping products.
This role sits at the heart of engineering enablement. You will ensure that engineers can effectively adopt platform capabilities, standardized workflows, and AI-enabled tools by providing clear, structured, and trustworthy documentation. Your work will directly impact engineering productivity, platform adoption, and the successful rollout of AI-driven initiatives across the company.
By acting as the central connective point between engineering, product, data, and business stakeholders in bp, the role improves delivery predictability, accelerates time-to-value for critical initiatives, reduces execution risk, and enables teams to with valuable AI and Engineering standards documentation that unlock speed, scalability and lasting engineering excellence for the team. Ultimately, this role strengthens engineering effectiveness, operational discipline, and the organization’s ability to turn technical engineering investment into measurable business value for bp.
What you will deliver
Own and develop documentation that enables the internal developer platform to scale across engineering teams.
Create onboarding guides, platform usage documentation, architectural overviews, and self-service enablement content for engineers.
Document standard patterns, workflows, APIs, tooling, and best practices that support consistent platform adoption.
Partner with platform engineering, DevOps, and security teams to ensure documentation reflects current capabilities and guardrails.
AI Enablement
Create and maintain documentation that supports the adoption of AI tools, workflows, and capabilities within engineering and adjacent teams.
Translate AI-related technical concepts, processes, and governance into clear, actionable documentation for engineers and stakeholders.
Support responsible AI usage by documenting guidelines, constraints, and approved patterns aligned with company policy.
Engineering Onboarding & Process Documentation
Develop structured onboarding documentation for engineers covering tools, systems, processes, and ways of working.
Document engineering standards, design handovers, and internal workflows aligned with energy-industry requirements.
Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation used throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Engineering to Shipping Journey
Document the end-to-end lifecycle from engineering release through manufacturing readiness, inspection, packing, and shipping.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, supply chain, and logistics teams to ensure accurate and consistent handover documentation.
Ensure documentation supports operational continuity and audit readiness.
Content Governance & Continuous Improvement
Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, style guides, and version control.
Ensure documentation meets internal quality standards, regulatory expectations, and audit requirements common in the energy sector.
Continuously improve content based on user feedback, platform evolution, and process changes.
What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field.
5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer in engineering-led, platform, or industrial environments.
Strong ability to understand and document developer platforms, engineering workflows, and technical systems.
Proven experience creating onboarding content, platform documentation, SOPs, and lifecycle documentation.
Excellent written English with a strong focus on clarity, structure, and usability.
Experience working closely with engineers, platform teams, and subject-matter experts.
Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, Share Point, Markdown-based systems, or similar.
Experience documenting internal developer platforms, DevOps tooling, or cloud-native environments.
Exposure to AI/ML platforms, AI governance, or enterprise AI adoption.
Background in energy, oil & gas, power, renewables, or heavy engineering industries.
