We’re seeking a future team member for the role of VP, Relationship Manager to join our Global Payments & Trade team. This role will be responsible for client coverage across Financial Institutions, including banks and NBFI. The successful candidate will lead relationship management, drive business development, and coordinate cross-functional support tailored to the needs of institutional clients. This role is located in Shanghai, China.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
Client Obsession:
- Build long-lasting, trusted client relationships through deep understanding of client operations and transaction banking needs.
- Ensure sustained client engagement by continually evaluating client needs.
- Act as the client’s advocate within the firm to support delivery of Global Payments & Trade solutions.
- Monitor and support onboarding and service levels to ensure a positive client experience.
- Address client issues promptly with internal partners.
- Communicate product migrations, regulatory changes, and market updates to clients.
Business Strategies:
- Develop and execute a client-centric strategy aligned with Global Payments & Trade growth objectives.
- Contribute to APAC strategy and business development with local market insights.
- Optimize portfolio management through deep relationships with global and regional clients.
- Collaborate with global teams to align operations, service, and onboarding.
Sales Pitches:
- Drive incremental cross-sell of Global Payments & Trade products and services.
- Provide consultative solutions, including RFP responses and client pitches.
- Recommend innovative and comprehensive solutions.
- Leverage industry insights and internal capabilities to deepen client relationships.
Know Your Customer (KYC) Reviews:
- Strong experience in KYC/AML risk and control processes for banks.
- Understand regulatory frameworks and ensure compliance in client interactions.
- Evaluate client account activity across the firm.
Ad Hoc Analysis:
- Use data tools across client Global Payments & Trade interaction points to be proactive.
- Good working knowledge of Banking Analytics, Swift Traffic, etc.
- Track and report on relationship strategy and results.
- Support onboarding and revenue ramp-up through data-driven insights.
- Partner with control functions (Legal, Compliance, Risk, etc.) to ensure governance and control.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required, while an Advanced / graduate degree preferred.
- 5-10 years of total work experience in Banking Industry.
- Global Payments & Trade or Relationship Management experience preferred.
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated planning, negotiation, organizational and analytical skills.
- An understanding of Global Payments & Trade/ Transaction Banking is required.
- Worked in a similar role within Financial Services/ Banking.
- Proven relationship management or Sales experience and a well-established network of Banks and Non-Banks Financial Institutions.
- Firm grasp of financial services markets and regulatory framework.
- Strong core competency in Transaction banking products and services sales, especially with prior experience in US banks for clearing, FX payments, Trade Finance, Liquidity management solutions.
- Experienced in negotiating agreements for inter-bank transactions, for example, nostro account agreement, MRPA, Master Trade Loan Agreement etc.
- Good working knowledge of using data analysis tools such as Swift.com Banking Analytics, Swift Traffic etc.
- Strong experience in KYC/AML risk and control process for Banks.
- Bilingual, fluent in English and business Mandarin, written and conversational.
