About the Role

Under close supervision, Technician interns support Kent Machine Shop operations while developing foundational knowledge of manufacturing and machining processes. Participates in structured training across tool crib operations and manual machining. Completes assigned projects that demonstrate understanding of machining fundamentals, quality standards, and manufacturing best practices. Does not independently operate machines but learns set-up procedures, tooling selection, blueprint interpretation, and basic machining principles through hands-on training and observation.

Responsibilities

  • Complete structured on-the-job training (OJT) in tool crib operations and manual machining under mentor guidance
  • Support daily shop operations including tool management, inventory tasks, and 5S activities
  • Complete a 5S or continuous improvement project that benefits shop operations
  • Learn to interpret basic engineering drawings and understand fundamental GD&T concepts
  • Develop understanding of machining processes, tooling applications, and quality inspection methods
  • Document learning through detailed run histories and process observations
  • Deliver presentation summarizing internship projects and key lessons learned
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company policies while demonstrating Blue Origin's Leadership Principles

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Currently pursuing relevant technical degree/certification in machining, manufacturing, or related field
  • Available to work full time while not concurrently enrolled in coursework
  • Good understanding of basic electronic theory – voltage, resistance, current
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc)
  • Ability to follow written assembly procedures
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and desire for continuous improvement
  • Ability to thrive as a member of a team

Compensation

Hourly rate: $22.00

Background Check and Export Control

Commercial Motor Vehicle Requirements: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

Merchant Mariner Credential: Required for certain job profiles; includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
