About the Role
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As a member of this highly skilled and collaborative team, you will be responsible for providing structural analysis support for ground support equipment (GSE) and manufacturing tooling, including but not limited to machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, and mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include conducting structural analyses, reviewing and evaluating both internally developed and vendor-produced designs, and offering structural design consultations to designers and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Perform strength assessments utilizing both classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and ground support equipment (GSE)
- Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentation
- Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis
- Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offs
- Support cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studies
- Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems
- Serve as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum), with at least 8 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industry
- Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran
- Proven Experience of FEA using 1D, 2D & 3D elements with models containing weldments, machined parts, and weldments
- Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexity
- Extensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum tooling, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculations
- Proficiency in performing bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, etc.)
- Proficiency in performing welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modes)
- Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Familiarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Proficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX software
- Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Compensation
Compensation Range for WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20. Other site ranges may differ.

Background Check Requirements
- Blue's Standard Background Check Required for all positions
- Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation
- Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training
- Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
