We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join Biogen’s Immuno Biology Open Innovation team at our West Coast Hub in South San Francisco. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on modulating key components of B cell biology to address autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. In this position, you will play a critical role in generating and interpreting data that contributes to our pipeline, working closely with cross-functional teams to translate scientific insights into impactful therapies. The work will span early drug discovery through preclinical development, providing exposure to the decision-making processes that advance programs toward first-in-human studies. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Biogen’s innovative research and collaborative ecosystem, shaping next-generation therapies for patients with unmet need.
What You’ll Do:
As an intern, you will contribute to research projects focused on B cell biology and immune modulation in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases:
- Design and execute experiments to generate high-quality data that informs early drug discovery and preclinical development.
- Apply advanced cellular immunology and molecular biology techniques to characterize immune pathways and disease-relevant mechanisms.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results, integrating findings with broader program objectives.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align scientific insights with translational strategies.
- Develop oral and written communication skills by presenting key findings at internal meetings and participating in team discussions.
Who You Are:
- Strong foundation in immunology, with an understanding of autoimmune and inflammatory disease mechanisms.
- Extensive hands-on experience in immunological techniques, including immune cell isolation, in vitro cell-based assays, and multicolor flow cytometry.
- Strong analytical skills, including interpretation of complex datasets and proficiency with data visualization and statistical tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments and adapt to evolving research priorities.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
