About This Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join our Small Molecule Chemical Development team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to develop robust processes for the synthesis of a wide range of Small Molecules across various modalities. This Scientist II position provides experiences in early phase to late phase drug development and exposure to the design and development of manufacturing processes for clinical and commercial therapeutics.
Who We Are
We are a team of organic chemists and chemical engineers engaged in the design of innovative processes which supply new medicines to patients. We focus on developing safe, economical, sustainable, and robust processes to support clinical trials and the launch of new medicines across various drug modalities. We are driven by first principles science, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative teamwork.
What You’ll Do
-
Route scouting, design, and implementation of safe, efficient and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates.
-
Design and execution of experiments to advance the Biogen portfolio. You will be responsible for analyzing, compiling, and sharing data with project teams.
-
Develop the fundamental process knowledge needed to support the transition of chemical and biochemical processes from the laboratory manufacturing partners.
-
Collaborate with our Analytical Chemistry, Solid Form, Engineering, and Separations colleagues to develop the knowledge and controls needed for the supply of clinical materials and characterization of the process to support regulatory filings.
-
Collaborate with development and manufacturing teams to design and conduct laboratory experiments to optimize and/or characterize the synthesis processes of Small Molecule assets with an emphasis on improvement in process understanding, robustness, and productivity.
-
Communicate research results effectively by writing research reports and presenting data in team meetings.
-
Engage in the CMC activities including authoring CMC section of INDs.
-
Interact with Contract Research Organizations as project needs evolve.
-
Initiate innovative research projects to improve fundamental understanding and control of Biogen synthetic processes.
Who You Are
You have a passion for exploring novel scientific concepts and are eager to contribute to the design and development and execution of cutting-edge technologies in the service of delivering drug candidates for clinical trials. Your vision and dedication drive you to push the boundaries of scientific endeavors, ultimately impacting patient lives. You thrive in a collaborative environment where urgency, accountability, inclusion and integrity are shared values.
Required Qualifications
-
Ph.D. with 0-3 years of relevant postdoc experience.
-
M.S. with 4+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech settings.
-
BS with 6+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech settings
-
Strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, including demonstrated understanding of reaction mechanisms, and good problem solving skills
-
Experience in route scouting, mechanistic analyses, use of analytical tools (NMR, MS, IR) and purification techniques (chromatography methods).
-
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
