Job Summary
This position is responsible for New Product Planning (NPP), Business Development (BD), and Alliance Management (AM) in Japan aiming for maximization of new product/pipeline opportunity, search/evaluation/transaction of external asset/partnership opportunities and alliance management with partner company for maximization of the partnership opportunity. In alignment with Global and upper management in Japan, this position’s role is consistent with corporate strategy and Area of Interest (AoI),and pursues growth opportunities in Japan market. Based in Tokyo, this position reports to Head of Value Access & Business Development, Biogen Japan, and collaborates with local Value Access, Commercial, Development, Medical, PO&T and other relevant teams as well as those cross functional teams in Global.
New Product Planning
-
Maximize Biogen portfolio with prioritization of focused asset for Japan market.

Assess new product business opportunity in alignment with Global product/therapeutic area (TA) strategy and give local input to Global for the pipeline maximization in Japan.

Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams (Product Development & Commercialization Japan team PDCJ and Pre-PDC PPDC) in Japan and give commercial input to Development, and work closely with their counterparts in Global.

Develop local commercial strategy and deliver launch readiness until its Commercial team is established.

Provide recommendation for upper management in Japan for their decision making.

Help Development and Medical teams to accelerate patient enrollment and gain insights from HCPs prior to approval/launch

Improve and monitor the development-to-commercialization process
Business Development
-
Search: Seek new external asset and partnership opportunity in Japan aligned to Biogen’s strategic AoI. Manage external relationships when needed
-
Evaluation: Assess business opportunities of identified new asset candidates and provide upper management with recommendations for decision making. Coordinate cross-functional assessment teams when needed.

Transaction: Collaborate with Global BD for the purpose of optimization of the deal with recognized due diligence framework.

Local deal: Negotiate with potential partner company to optimize deal structure when it’s deal exclusively in Japan
Alliance Management
-
Manage Alliance framework with existing partner (e.g., Eisai) based on deep understanding of the alliance contracts and governance.

Influence and manage key stakeholders to ensure success of a collaboration.

Provide Japan input to Global and execute amendment when needed

Foster governance and communication with internal organizations (e.g. Biogen Japan, Biogen Global) and external partners.
Minimum Education Requirements
-Bachelor’s Degree
-Preferable: MBA, Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD or equivalent, PhD, MD)
Minimum Experience Requirements
-
10+ years in the pharmaceutical industry such as NPP, BD, business planning, marketing etc.

Demonstrated analytical and planning skills
-Proven leadership in project with cross-functional teams
-Experience in licensing/partnership negotiations preferred
-Experience in collaboration with global teams
-Flexibility and adaptability for many different types of assessment and deal
Knowledge & Skills
