About the Role

Apple is looking for an engineering manager to manage the Camera performance team in the software organization. In this role, you'll lead the team which works to deliver fast and fluid camera experiences across the product ecosystem, bringing prior expertise in software optimization to bear on a unique opportunity to collaborate with hardware and software groups across Apple.

In order to deliver experiences which fully exploit Apple's cutting edge hardware and software, the ideal candidate will combine a deep knowledge of operating systems and computer architecture with a passion for performance and optimization, previous experience in leading engineering teams with an ability to develop and mentor engineers, and an aptitude for building relationships both within and outside of their immediate organization.

Responsibilities

The Camera performance team works cross-functionally to optimize and sustain the camera experience for both next-generation and existing products. As Camera Performance manager, you'll work closely with engineering teams to ensure great performance is a primary goal for new features, maintain and optimize user experience for existing devices, and collaborate with our automation and analytics teams to build tests that reflect real-world usage - all whilst managing a team of highly-motivated engineers who can both find the root cause of power & performance problems, and resolve them. You'll have the unique opportunity to collaborate with a broad set of technology partners, for example: our silicon group to influence future chip designs, the design group to evaluate the performance implications of UI choices, and camera hardware designers to understand thermal implications of future camera technologies, to name just a few.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of OS, systems, and computer architecture
  • 3+ years leading a software engineering team
  • Expertise in software profiling techniques and tools (such as Xcode, valgrind, vmmap, Instruments, VTune, or Perfetto)
  • A passion for cross-functional work combined with the ability to co-ordinate the efforts of multiple teams
  • Experience in the analysis of complex data & metrics in order to inform data-driven decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS / MS / PhD in Computer Science or equivalent years of experience in related field
  • Prior experience of realtime audio/video processing pipeline development
  • Proficiency with the use of GPU & TPU hardware to accelerate image processing and AI/ML workloads
  • Past experience with power measurement and thermal analysis
