Senior Product Designer

  • Apple Media

About the Role

Apple is where people do the best work of their careers. Work that has an impact on individuals and the world. Work that is challenging and fulfilling. Work that doesn't always feel like work. Apple's Product, Design, & Marketing team is growing to deliver new and engaging experiences across our Internal Tools. We are building out a multi-cloud platform that will power Apple's key services ranging from Music, TV+, Sports, and AI/ML offerings. We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team to help reimagine the Apple Engineer experience and shape the future of cloud infrastructure at Apple.

The Apple Media Product Design group is seeking a technical visual designer to spec end-to-end product artwork behavior.

This role works deeply and collaboratively with Product Designers, Editorial Designers, Engineering, and Producers to ensure that product artwork and tools function as envisioned by Design.

The ideal applicant will be a visually creative professional but with honed technical chops, possess extreme levels of focus to identify edge cases, and the vision to forecast project scalability on an international level for production teams. It is important for the applicant to think through the butterfly effect of seemingly small product choices when taken to production scale by Editorial Content Designers worldwide.

If you are passionate about working within design systems and planning the methods, templates and tools in which creatives work, we encourage you to apply.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Meticulous planning of artwork behavior across all supported LOBs
  • Pitching artwork planning presentations to Engineering and Design
  • Handing off and training designers on the final production Photoshop templates, all the way through defining the methods, tools and behavior used for publishing to the end Apple product/device user

This position is an exciting mix of technical and subjective skills, truly an intersection of liberal arts and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with product designers and engineering to spec artwork systems across products/services and device families. This includes App Store and Mac App Store, Apple Arcade, TV App, Apple Music, i Tunes, and more. The work traverses iOS, tvOS, macOS, watchOS, and more.
  • Assist in graphic asset pulling and rapid asset creation to flesh out proposals and unblock engineering development.
  • Creating Design keynote decks (audience is Engineering/Product Design, Editorial Design Teams, Content Producer groups)
  • Create and maintain documentation for new products, Editorial Artwork Tools, Artwork QA Testing and tracking issues with Engineering.
  • Take in issues and feedback with external artwork in all existing and future systems, advise business on standards/specs
  • Work to publish internal and external artwork specs to educate parties predicting raw and finished artwork for IS&S products.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Design or related technical field
  • Portfolio of work showing understanding and execution of design systems at scale
  • 5+ years working with large scale international content or media design teams
  • Experience with Production Design systems for multimedia and web products
  • Knowledge around AI models and technologies in relation to production processes and design systems
  • Designer empathy and understanding of the impact of production processes and scale on individual designers
  • Ability to make choices and balance between efficiency and control or customization for Design teams
  • Excels in documentation, presentation, organization, and masterful attention to detail
  • A driving passion for the Apple device families, products and services
  • Fast and proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch and Keynote
  • Candidate should be responsive via email and other mediums when Product and Engineering teams need answers and decisions can turn on a dime

Preferred Qualifications

  • Past work experience as a production or editorial designer
