Seeking a strong C, C++, Swift, or Obj-C developer for Apple's HTTP protocol implementation (HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2, HTTP/3) as well as URL and URI standards. Our team is responsible for the client-side HTTP code that powers Safari and Web Kit, i Cloud, App Store, Music, and the vast majority of other Apple and 3rd party apps and services, on all of Apple's OSs (iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS). Besides networking, you are already proficient in - and if you're still learning as we all are, are encouraged to become fluent in - run-time performance optimization, multithreaded programming, cross-layer design, and many other concepts common to general software and OS development.
Our developer API, URLSession, is implemented in the CFNetwork and Network frameworks in the Internet Frameworks & User Privacy org.

We are also responsible for the Swift URL API (as well as preceding NSURL and CFURL API), implemented in Foundation framework and Swift open source libraries.

These APIs have Swift and Objective-C interfaces, but are also implemented in C and C++.

Besides networking teams, peer groups with which you may need to collaborate closely, include Web Kit, and framework teams supporting Air Drop, Messages, Face Time, and Swift.

Description:

We are seeking a talented software engineer to help us to both create and maintain next-generation technologies for Apple's mobile, desktop, wearable, and services platforms. We need a creative engineer with experience developing high-quality products on schedule, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a passion for innovation. In this role you will be responsible for designing and implementing new features, as well as maintaining existing libraries.

Preferred Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge in one or more areas in networking, with desire and ability to master others, while balancing independent work and collaboration

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Proficiency with software development using Apple developer or cross-platform APIs

One or more of: Network library development, networking research, networking, or URI/URL standards

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent

5+ years of experience in core areas of this role

Track record of shipping high quality, critical path production networking features using C, C++, Swift, or Obj-C, strong analytical ability and debugging skills, and expertise in multithreaded development

Expertise in Cocoa, Swift, Objective-C, iOS/macOS, or cross-platform development

Pay & Benefits:

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
