The Vision Products Group (VPG) is seeking an OS Rendering and Graphics Software Engineer to design and develop state-of-the-art 3D graphics experiences for our platform. As a key member of the Reality Kit rendering team, you will shape the future of real-time 3D graphics on Vision Pro and all Apple platforms. Your role will involve pioneering new rendering techniques, elevating visual quality to unprecedented heights, and exploring innovative possibilities for immersive experiences across the Apple ecosystem. Collaborating closely with hardware engineers, graphics API experts, designers, and technical artists, you will transform groundbreaking graphics research into practical, production-ready solutions.
Description:
As a core member of the Reality Kit rendering team, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of real-time 3D graphics on the Vision Pro and all Apple platforms. By pioneering innovative rendering techniques, you will elevate visual quality to unprecedented heights and unlock novel avenues for immersive experiences. Collaborating closely with hardware engineers, low-level graphics API experts, designers, and technical artists, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality and high-performance real-time graphics features that will empower developers across the Apple ecosystem.","responsibilities":"Architect and implement cutting-edge graphics features and APIs that enable immersive and highly visual experiences.
Analyze and optimize the rendering pipeline to ensure consistent frame rates within thermal and power constraints.
Collaborate with QA and engineering teams to develop comprehensive test suites that guarantee reliability of the ecosystem.
Lead peer reviews of architecture, API design, and code changes to foster a culture of technical excellence.
Work closely with technical artists, human-interface designers, and cross-Apple teams to translate creative concepts into production-ready technology.
Mentor and coach junior engineers by sharing best practices and promoting code quality.
Utilize pioneering graphics research to develop production-ready solutions that power Reality Kit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
Experience in developing contemporary rendering pipelines within 3D engines.
Experience in 3D game development, including the creation of commercially released titles.
Familiarity with augmented AR/VR rendering technologies.
Technical and People Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree:
5 years of experience in developing 3D real-time rendering applications.
Proficiency in writing secure and high-performance C++ code.
Knowledge of the graphics pipeline, modern rendering techniques, and image processing.
Experience with modern graphics APIs (Metal, Vulkan, Direct3D 12, WebGPU) and shading languages (MSL, HLSL, GLSL, WGSL).
Ability to solve problems in 3D geometry utilizing linear algebra.
Experience encompassing all stages of software development, from prototyping to performance optimization.
Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Passionate about owning and refining features.

Pay & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
