About the Role

Lead and inspire a team of engineers building the future of device management for Apple products in schools and businesses worldwide. As the Engineering Manager for Declarative Device Management, you'll guide the team responsible for the technology that enables device management tools from both Apple and third-party partners to remotely manage millions of Apple devices every day. We're looking for a technical leader who combines engineering expertise with exceptional people management skills. The individual in this role will drive innovation while developing talent and delivering critical infrastructure that powers device management across Apple's operating systems.

As the Engineering Manager for the Declarative Device Management team, you will lead a team of dedicated engineers while driving the technical vision and execution of declarative device management solutions. You'll balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring your team delivers innovative OS-level functionality while growing their careers. Your team's work directly impacts how organizations configure and manage Apple devices without compromising the exceptional user experience Apple is known for.

You'll collaborate with leadership across multiple engineering teams throughout Apple, from system and Apple's App Store apps to low-level OS infrastructure. As most system components require management capabilities, you'll build partnerships across the company while representing your team's technical needs and contributions. You'll be responsible for project planning, resource allocation, and ensuring your team delivers high-quality solutions that delight education and enterprise customers globally.

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions for declarative device management features and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and cross-functional engineering teams to define roadmaps and deliver innovative solutions
  • Balance technical debt with feature development while maintaining high code quality standards
  • Participate in hands-on technical work including code reviews, architecture discussions, and critical problem-solving
  • Foster an inclusive team culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and risk mitigation across multiple concurrent initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience leading iOS, macOS, or systems-level development teams
  • 7+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Swift or Objective-C
  • Proven track record of shipping complex software products and frameworks
  • Deep understanding of Apple development technologies including Core Data, libdispatch, XPC
  • Experience with concurrent programming, multi-threading, and distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience managing teams working on device management, security, or enterprise technologies
  • Hands-on experience with MDM, Declarative Device Management, or similar enterprise mobility solutions
  • Experience recruiting and building diverse, high-performing engineering teams
  • Contributions to open-source projects or technical community leadership
