Description
As a Senior Data Platforms Software Engineer, you will define the technical vision and lead the architectural evolution of platform infrastructure that enables Data Science for Apple Services. You will drive strategic platform decisions, mentor analytics teams, and influence technical direction across multiple organizations while building and optimizing the platform that supports our analytics ecosystem.","responsibilities":"As a team, we ensure Data Scientist, Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Engineers, and Machine Learning Engineers have the tools they need for storage, compute, orchestration, deployment, and AI development.
You will architect and drive adoption of a toolset that delivers flexibility, resilience, and deep analytics features while meeting Apple's stringent security and privacy requirements.
Collaborating between our team members and infrastructure organizations, you'll translate the unique requirements of Data Science, Machine Learning, and Business Intelligence workloads into scalable platform capabilities that enable rapid innovation.
You will lead cross-functional technical initiatives, establish platform engineering best practices, and drive the strategic roadmap for Data Science and AI at Apple.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with AI/ML technologies including LLMs, AI Agents (Lang Chain, Google ADK, etc.)
Track record designing client-agnostic APIs using REST and/or GraphQL
Understanding of OAuth 2.0 fundamentals (authentication, delegated authorization, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
7+ years of experience in software architecture design and development with expertise in Service Oriented Architecture, and Distributed Systems
2+ years of experience in technical leadership roles focused on platform engineering or infrastructure
Proficiency with containerized technologies (Docker) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Terraform)
Proven ability to design, operate, and maintain distributed systems (monitoring, observability, automation, etc.)
Proven development skills building backend API services using Python (preferred) and/or JavaScript
Practical experience with asynchronous programming, type safety, threading models, state machines and data structures
Experience with data processing frameworks and query engines like Spark, Trino, and Snowflake
Experience with managed cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with non-technical audience

Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
