About the Role
Do you want to help reshape productivity software for tomorrow's consumers and creators? Are you interested in creating amazing user experiences on macOS, iOS and i PadOS, and visionOS? Do you have a passion for code that is as elegant as the output that it produces? The Graphics team in Apple's Visual Productivity Apps group is looking for an engineer to help build the future of i Work, Freeform, and other apps for visual creation. As a content software engineer on the Graphics team you will collaborate closely with designers and production teams as we produce dynamic and impactful graphic content that assists and inspires people doing their best work in apps like Freeform, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. In this work you'll cross our entire stack, operating everywhere from the low-level persistence layers to our cloud technologies to the visual level that our users see every day. Your work will be both behind-the-scenes and in the face of every person who creates a new project in our apps. This role comes with the opportunity to work closely with other internal teams that love our products, and get fast feedback long before shipping to the App Store.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively with other engineers, human interface designers, localization teams, and content producers to brainstorm, prototype and ship tools that produce amazing content and deliver it effectively to devices across the world
- Analyze workflows and suggest improvements, help to coordinate process changes, and make technical changes to our products and tools where needed
- Produce documentation and provide other forms of support
- Develop new interactions and visual capabilities that broaden our users' capabilities and support their best work
- Make good use of documentation, IDEs, debuggers and other tools in understanding the large code base which forms the graphical and interaction underpinnings of our products
- Write easy-to-understand new code, and work to fix existing bugs and make architectural improvements that resist them
- Keep the ultimate user in mind at all times, delighting them while supporting their best work
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency with Swift or Objective-C
- Proficiency in Python or another scripting language
- Skilled with object-oriented design
- Experience with Metal, Core Graphics, or other 2D graphics environments
- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering software projects with and for cross-functional teams
- Ability to communicate clearly—both verbally and in writing—and build trust across business lines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Past experience building software for macOS
- Experience working in large industrial code bases with large teams
- Demonstrated skill at understanding non-technical users' needs and developing appropriate solutions
