Senior Design Evaluation Engineer – Battery Management Systems Overview
Come develop technology solutions that solve planetary scale problems in the Analog Devices Battery Management Systems (BMS) business unit. The electric vehicle and green-energy revolution is here, and we are changing the world with our industry leading battery monitoring technology. The automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS) group at Analog Devices develops ultra-high performance instrumentation ICs that measure battery cell voltages and currents in and around the high-voltage battery pack of electric vehicles.
Position Summary
The Senior Design Evaluation Engineer is responsible for defining, developing, and executing evaluation methodologies for BMS integrated circuits and subsystems. This role requires observational skills, analytical thinking, structured problem‑solving capability, and the ability to independently resolve complex mixed‑signal and system-level issues. The engineer will design and implement hardware and software evaluation platforms, characterize silicon performance, debug functional anomalies, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust product performance throughout the development lifecycle.
The position involves substantial hands‑on lab engagement, exploration of technical root causes, system‑level thinking, and leadership in evaluation strategy and execution—directly influencing BMS IC maturity, reliability, and release readiness.
Key Responsibilities1. Evaluation Planning and System Development: Lead the definition and architecture of end‑to‑end evaluation solutions—including schematics, system‑level test plans, automation approaches, embedded interfaces, and hardware platforms—for BMS ICs and multi‑IC systems.
2. Silicon Characterization and Bench Execution: Independently execute detailed bench‑level characterization of BMS ICs, validating critical BMS system behaviors including cell monitoring, balancing accuracy, safety feature performance, and system‑level interactions.
3. Data Analysis, Debug, and Correlation: Perform advanced data analysis to identify anomalies, patterns, and deviations in performance; employ strong critical thinking to isolate root causes and correlate measurements & simulation and production results.
4. Documentation and Reporting: Present findings and develop formal documentations with clarity and emphasis on risk, root cause, and recommended corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related field, with ~6 years of experience in analog, mixed‑signal, or power silicon evaluation and validation.
- Strong hands‑on hardware expertise in analog and digital circuit debug, validation, and component‑level troubleshooting.
- High proficiency with lab test and measurement equipment, key communication protocols (SPI, UART), and advanced scripting for measurement automation (Python preferred).
- Deep technical knowledge of analog/digital fundamentals, power electronics, signal integrity, and data analysis.
- Proven ability to independently drive complex validation efforts, deliver high‑quality results on tight timelines, and communicate effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Battery Management System (BMS) architectures: cell monitoring ICs, balancing mechanisms, battery safety systems, system integration.
-
Knowledge of automotive standards (AEC-Q100, ISO 26262) and automotive-grade qualification methodologies.
-
Embedded C capability for developing or modifying firmware, interfacing with microcontrollers, and supporting measurement automation across evaluation environments.
-
Experience aligning bench, simulation, and production test results and driving systematic debug across development stages.
-
Direct experience in mentoring more junior peers is a plus.
-
