ABOUT THE ROLE

Role Description:

The SAP Senior Basis Architect (BTP Focus) is responsible for the operation, optimization, and evolution of Amgen’s global ERP landscape, comprising SAP and non-SAP systems managed on AWS. As a senior technical leader, this role ensures the resilience, compliance, and security of Amgen’s 24x7 regulated and mission-critical ERP platform.

This position plays a key role in Amgen’s ERP modernization program, driving S/4HANA and Cloud ERP (RISE) adoption while owning the architecture, operations, and governance of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The Senior Basis Architect combines deep technical expertise in SAP Basis with strategic insight into cloud-native extensibility, automation, and platform engineering, advancing Amgen’s clean-core and innovation objectives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Lead the roadmap execution and lifecycle management of SAP landscapes across AWS and RISE with SAP environments, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance
• Architect, operate, and continuously optimize SAP systems including S/4HANA, GRC, ATTP, GTS, and other core components along SAP’s integrated toolchain (CALM, LeanIX, Signavio, etc.)
• Own the design, deployment, and administration of SAP BTP services, including subaccounts, entitlements, Integration Suite, Business Process Automation, Build, AI, etc.
• Define and enforce technical standards, governance models, and lifecycle management for both Basis and BTP environments
• Lead DevOps and automation initiatives to streamline deployments, transport management, patching, and provisioning across SAP core and BTP platforms
• Implement observability and performance optimization using tools such as SAP Focused Run, CloudWatch, and BTP monitoring solutions
• Collaborate with SAP, AWS, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure consistent security, scalability, and cost-optimization across all platform layers
• Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, GxP, SOX, and data governance requirements across SAP core and BTP systems
• Drive extensibility and integration through BTP services, maintaining a clean core while enabling innovation and intelligent automation
• Partner with infrastructure and security teams to design resilient cloud architectures supporting business continuity and disaster recovery
• Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on SAP platform modernization, BTP adoption, and cloud transformation strategy

Basic Qualifications and Experience

• Doctorate degree OR
• Master’s degree in computer science or STEM majors and 4 to 6 years of IT or SAP related field experience OR
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or STEM majors and 6 to 8 years of IT or SAP related field experience OR
• Diploma in computer science or STEM majors and 10 to 12 years of IT or SAP related field experience

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills:

• Proven experience leading SAP Basis operations and architecture across on-premise, AWS, and RISE with SAP environments
• Deep hands-on expertise with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) administration, including subaccount management, service enablement, entitlements, and connectivity setup
• Strong background in S/4HANA, ATTP, GTS, GRC, ATC, GIS, Onapsis, Open Text, CALM, BTP Data Sphere, etc.
• Solid understanding of security, scalability, and compliance frameworks within regulated (GxP/SOX) environments

Good-to-Have Skills:

• Experience integrating SAP BTP and hyperscaler services with RISE landscapes
• Hands-on experience implementing DevOps and automation pipelines for SAP system management
• Familiarity with AI/ML, GenAI, and SAP Business AI to implement advanced technologies in optimizing SAP solutions and driving innovation.

Professional Certifications (please mention if the certification is preferred or mandatory for the role):

• SAP Certified Solution Architect
• SAP BTP (preferred)
• SAP Certified Technology Associate (preferred)
• Agile Certified Practitioner (preferred)
