Job Description

Amgen’s Research and Development (R&D) Business Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools, and processes. The team delivers on key initiatives and capabilities to support R&D. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and processing healthcare compliance related contracting and payments of proposed arrangements by Amgen staff with Members of the U.S. Healthcare Community (i.e. Fee for Service, Consulting, Sponsorship, Donation, Exhibits, Advisory Boards or other similar engagements).. We are looking for talent who have play a key role in supporting the healthcare contracting process and ensuring accurate and timely payments to members of the health care community. The senior associate requires a solid understanding of contracting as well as SAP software and its functionalities. The senior associate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, sourcing, accounts payable, and finance, to ensure smooth and seamless contract management and payment operations. Required Competencies and Skills:

Key Responsibilities:

Lead in the review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts for members of the healthcare community. Responsible for complex agreements, requiring extensive knowledge of healthcare regulations, business requirements and legal compliance. Operates independently, requiring minimal supervision, engaging business partners where appropriate. Oversees timeline management and escalations as appropriate. Engages with senior leadership. Participates in strategy sessions on the execution of work between OUS and US. Engagement with functional leads in OUS and US as necessary. Ability to effectively explain contract terms and positions to internal stakeholders. Ability to effectively communicate business risks to internal stakeholders and escalate as appropriate. Extensive document drafting experience (preferably in a fast-paced environment, e.g. consulting firms, biotech, tech companies, etc.) Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with legal, sourcing, accounts payable, and other relevant teams to streamline financial processes and resolve any issues or discrepancies. Ensure effective communication and foster positive working relationships. Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations. Develop and enforce policies and procedures related to contracting and payment operations. Participate in audits and assist with compliance-related activities as required. Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to optimize contracting and payment processes.

  • Ability to prioritize competing interests and projects and manage a high volume of contract document requests.
  • Maintaining oversight of contracts and payments team providing support to Amgen staff.
  • Identify and escalate business issues needing resolution, as well as identifying potential process improvements and manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Determines actions required to resolve problems or issues and coordinates with other departments as needed to ensure resolution in a timely manner.

Contribution:

  • Maintain key relationships by communicating and collaborating with cross-functional partners such as Law, Regulatory, Global Meeting Management and other Worldwide Compliance and Business Ethics groups, and the International Healthcare Compliance group.
  • Consistent with Amgen’s Healthcare Compliance Policy and Standard Operating Procedures:
  • Review proposed arrangements via Amgen’s healthcare compliance operations system of record (C3).
  • Support Amgen staff members with any related questions and/or concerns such as C3 system support
  • Draft contracts, contract amendments, and resolve any issues relating to contract negotiation or management to drive to contract execution.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization internally, as well as stakeholders external to Amgen with the highest level of customer service.
  • Manage payment inquiries that are received from members of the healthcare community.
  • RAEs (Responsible Amgen Employee), Service Providers etc. Outcome may include further reviews, research and/or triage.
  • Time management and problem-solving skills

Education and Experience:

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 3 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Associate’s degree and 10 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Law or paralegal background preferred.
  • Strong external customer service background
  • Managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources.
  • Strong data analytics skills with experience in analytics software, (eg. Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet) as well as experience with document management applications (eg. Veeva), and portfolio planning tools and financial systems (eg. Planisware, SAP, MS Projects)
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, contract terms, and payment processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively manage projects and teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and financial systems.
