Accounting Manager

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this role, you will be responsible for leading month‑end close and controllership activities for Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Canada. You will support Senior Managers in delivering strategic, tactical, and operational accounting and controlling objectives.

You will manage corporate books and ensure the accuracy and completeness of the corporate leaders’ financial close. Additional responsibilities include performing quarterly balance sheet reviews, annual internal control reviews (IICC/SOX), and supporting control validations and testing. You will also provide accounting guidance to local managers and partners for non‑routine transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment in accordance with corporate policies.

A key part of the position involves overseeing the work performed by an external vendor, who manages the transactional aspects of the operational accounting close. This includes supervise, guide, review, and validating the work done by the vendor providing guidelines, working instructions, and ensuring adherence to corporate accounting standards.

This position is strongly focused on controllership, governance, and ensuring consistency and compliance across multiple countries in the region.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for accurate, complete, and timely periodic accounting close.
  • Support the preparation of close packages (including variance analysis), and disclosure checklists.
  • Provide guidance on the application of policies and procedures and US GAAP treatment for transactions being executed by regional and/or local finance teams and support appropriate implementation.
  • Operate as a link between local, regional, and functional finance teams to establish clear roles & responsibilities and install the appropriate processes and tools.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and monitoring of Internal Control processes.
  • Support and advise local Finance Leads with Tax compliance, internal and external audits as well as the implementation of recommended improvements.
  • Create and track financial metrics for management.
  • Provide ad hoc support to local Finance Leads and flag all opportunities and challenges.
  • Keep track of the effectiveness of SLAs, process maps, and SOPs, and monitor the various Finance functions.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is a must
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in multinational companies.
  • Strong ability to oversee and monitor external vendors involved in accounting operations.
  • Fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish
  • Proficiency in technical knowledge of accounting (US GAAP), accounting processes and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written in the three languages mentioned above) skills, including the ability to interact with Amgen middle management effectively and confidentially.
  • Excellent and insightful analytical skills; ability to drive meaningful insights from large datasets.
  • Knowledge tax accounting.
