How will you make an impact in this role?
We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Payments Consulting team in Japan. In this role, you will help ensure that American Express cards can be accepted smoothly and reliably across merchants in Japan. You will work closely with payment processors and POS terminal providers to deliver solutions that meet both market needs and American Express standards.
This is a great opportunity for someone who understands the payments ecosystem, enjoys solving problems, and likes working with both technical and business stakeholders.
1. Support and Improve Payment Acceptance
- Provide guidance to partners on how to enable or optimize American Express acceptance.
- Communicate operational and technical requirements in a clear, business-friendly way.
- Identify and help resolve issues that may impact card acceptance or transaction performance.
2. Support Payment Enablement Projects
Drive a variety of projects such as:
Enabling American Express acceptance for new merchants
- Upgrading POS terminals or adding new features (e.g., EMV, contactless)
- Supporting processor certification or updates
- Improving transaction success rates
- Implementing network or compliance changes
- Supporting partners as they adopt new payment solutions
3. Build Strong Partnerships
- Work closely with POS terminal vendors, payment processors, and occasionally industry groups
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment and support successful execution
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in payments, merchant solutions, card networks, payment service providers, or related fields
- Ability to understand both business and technical perspectives and translate between them
- Strong project management and coordination skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Fluency in Japanese and English
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of credit card payment processing (POS, e-commerce, EMV, contactless)
- Experience working with global or multinational teams
- Familiarity with terminal vendors or payment processors
