American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) provides payment solutions that help corporations and small businesses run and grow their operations. Within GCS, the Product Development & Enterprise Solutions team leads product innovation, digital experience, and business development initiatives across the portfolio.
We are seeking a Director, Product Strategy & Solution Design to lead a critical Digital Product Development function within our Middle Market platform. You will lead the definition and design of complex product solutions and support the delivery of integrated digital capabilities as the platform continues to evolve. This role plays a central part in ensuring solutions are cohesive and aligned with our long-term architectural direction and ambition to deliver a best-in-class digital experiences for our commercial customers.
How You Will Make an Impact
Reporting to the VP Commercial Digital Experiences, you will:
- Define and lead end-to-end solution strategy for complex customer and business problems, spanning multiple products, platforms, and services.
- Shape the evolution of our Middle Market digital platform, including expense management capabilities and customer migration to modern infrastructure.
- Translate customer and commercial needs into scalable, secure solution architectures aligned to governance and technology standards.
- Identify ecosystem capability gaps and influence product roadmaps and investment priorities.
- Lead cross-functional discovery and solution alignment across Product, Engineering, Design, Analytics, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Develop clear solution narratives and artifacts to enable senior decision-making.
- Guide teams from ambiguity to structured execution, balancing strategic ambition with delivery feasibility.
- Lead and develop a small team of Product Managers, providing clarity, coaching, and direction.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years in Product Management or solution-oriented product roles with ownership of complex, multi-product or platform solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to decompose ambiguous problems and define integrated, outcome-driven solutions.
- Strong technical fluency and ability to engage Engineering on architecture, constraints, and risk trade-offs.
- Experience operating cross-functionally within large, matrixed organizations.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including influencing senior leaders without direct authority.
- Experience applying structured product and delivery frameworks (e.g., agile, discovery-led development, outcome-based roadmapping).
- Familiarity with leveraging AI tools within product discovery and solution design, with appropriate governance awareness.
