Whole Foods Market is seeking a sharp, driven, and analytically minded Program Manager III to join our Competitive Intelligence team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of understanding the competitive grocery landscape, translating retailer performance data into strategic insights that directly shape our business.

This is a high-visibility role with real impact from day one. The right candidate should have a strong foundation in retail merchandising, possess the ability to dive deep into complex pricing and assortment performance metrics, understand the business context behind the data, and continuously strive to find deeper insights.

You will design and execute competitive intelligence strategies to capture high-quality insights on grocery retailers' business performance. You will conduct or manage deep-dive analyses on pricing, assortment, and competitive positioning, surfacing the "so what" behind the data. Working closely with Pricing & Merchandising leaders, you will develop strategy, launch case studies, and deliver clear, actionable findings. Over time, you will build repeatable, scalable analytical frameworks that improve the team's speed and depth. You will communicate results clearly to senior business leaders, translating complex data into concise narratives, and contribute as a key voice for the four other analysts on the Competitive Intelligence team.

We are looking for a candidate who brings a strong foundation in retail merchandising, with the ability to contextualize pricing and assortment data within broader market dynamics. They have a proven ability to work through complex performance metrics and extract meaningful, business-relevant insights. They are comfortable operating at both the detail level and the strategic level, knowing when each is needed. They consistently deliver timely, accurate analyses, build partnerships across business teams, and drive change through insight. They can distill complex findings into concise narratives for a range of audiences.

Key job responsibilities

  • Program Management

  • Manage priorities and project deliverable timelines for the Competitive Intelligence team

  • Identify opportunities for the team to pursue supporting organizational goals

  • Collaboration & Relationships

  • Maintain close working relationships with stakeholder leaders to collaborate on the development of competitive strategy and reporting needs

  • Work cross functionally with product teams to design reporting capabilities using in house tools

  • Manage relationships with competitive data vendors ensuring feeds are stable and accurate

  • Communication

  • Speak, present, and train team members on competitive strategy, value positioning, and overall competitiveness

  • Manage regular updates to leadership on projects related to competitive positioning and strategies

  • Analytics and Reporting

  • Gather retail pricing, assortment, promotion, and location data on competitors, leveraging third-party sources and primary research

  • Ability to self-serve data with programming skills (SQL, R, Python)

  • Experience in a highly scalable, distributed environment preferred

  • Analyze data to provide competitive strategy, highlight opportunities, and inform recommendations for adjustments

Serve as a go to resource for Global and Regional Merchandising Teams in competitive situations.

Stay current with food, retail, market news and natural products trends.  Read popular and trade press widely.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, analytical business specialty or commensurate retail experience
  • 5+ years of experience with data analytics programming tools (R, Python, Alteryx) and relational databases (SQL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of driving process improvements experience
  • Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
