We are expanding our team and looking for a Worldwide Sr. Mgr. External Affairs team to lead and be accountable for the global health and safety operational direction and strategy related to External Affairs. You will lead a WHS team that will partner with Public Relations, Public Policy, Legal, Sustainability, and other stakeholders to drive external engagement opportunities for the WHS organization. The individual will work on both proactive and reactive critical employee, public policy, and public relations issues that relate to our employee safety and health engagement. You must have a proven track record for delivering results across multiple businesses and geographies, interacting with senior leaders, influencing cross-functional organizations, and be an exceptionally strong communicator.
You will be able to demonstrate a true passion for problem solving with the ability to conceptualize novel applications using new and emerging technology. You will be a strong leader of others and will be responsible for leading a global team and work collaboratively across a matrixed organization.
This role requires strong public/private relationship building skills and sound business judgment. The ideal candidate for this position thrives on empowerment and accountability and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong writing skills, enabling them to work successfully with diverse audiences and on a broad spectrum of safety/employee relations issues and projects. Balancing time between projects and crisis-response is a critical component for success in the position. You will thrive in a fast paced environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytic skills, and leadership are essential to success in this role. Your scope will be global, including all Amazon businesses and geographies. You will need to be able to travel both within USA and internationally (estimated travel 30% pending location). This role will be based within one of our key USA office locations.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, content developers, program managers, and senior-level leaders across multiple disciplines/functional roles.
  • Consult, engage, and collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including public policy, public relations, sustainability, Legal, and PXT/HR risk and compliance teams.
  • Manage issues and crises related to workplace health and safety related issues.
  • Develop creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges involving workplace health and safety issues.
  • Work closely with public policy team to effectively educate legislators, key agency officials, and their staffs on workplace health and safety related policy issues.
  • Facilitate high-level meetings between executives and key stakeholders, including congressional, regulatory, and industry association and alliance partners, to promote and advocate the company’s public policy objectives.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership role experience
  • 10+ years of professional communications, public relations, or public affairs experience
  • Bachelor's degree, or BS degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge in workplace health and safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with fast-moving, high-performance teams and driving innovative solutions tailored to unique business environments
  • Experience prioritizing competing demands, scoping large efforts, and negotiating timelines
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing operations environment
  • Experience with written and verbal communication and presentation
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills including quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • A self-starter and ability to self-manage priorities and deliverables.
  • Possess the ability to interact positively and in a professional manner, excellent critical thinking with problem-solving skills, and an ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
