Amazon is seeking an experienced Press Office leader to drive communications and media relations for our business in Japan.
In this senior position, you will play a pivotal role within our Communications team, leading the day-to-day operations of the media relations office and issues management, and spearheading proactive communication campaigns. The role requires a strategic communicator who can manage complex media relationships, shape narrative, and navigate challenging communications landscapes.
You will be responsible for maintaining a robust pipeline of engaging stories about Amazon's work in Japan across multiple channels, while providing strategic counsel to senior leadership and leading internal escalations. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across various countries, cultures, and business units to advance Amazon's communication objectives.
This role demands strategic thinking and clear communication abilities. You will develop creative approaches to communications challenges, formulate clear viewpoints on complex issues, and create compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. As a natural relationship builder, you will serve as an influential voice within the organization, working closely with team mates, senior executives and stakeholders across the business.
- Key job responsibilities
- Lead Amazon’s press office operations in Japan, managing both reactive and proactive media engagement
- Develop and execute corporate communications programs aligned with business objectives
- Provide strategic communications counsel to leadership team members
- Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts and stakeholders
- Create and maintain communication materials and messaging frameworks
- Advise and influence approaches on all media-related activities across Amazon Japan
A day in the life
No two days are ever the same in this role! The day is always going to have interesting, challenging and stimulating work - how to convey not only what Amazon Japan does, but who Amazon Japan is to the Japanese media and their audiences? Your day will be combined of team sessions to debate and discuss approaches, and have a chance to work together on projects and senior stakeholder meetings as people seek your wisdom and advice. You will be writing, in both English and Japanese, and sharing ideas and the Japan point of view with colleagues in other locations globally.

The International Stores and Corporate Communications (ISCC) team drives Amazon's global communication strategy across our international marketplaces. We connect Amazon's vision, products, and services with customers, employees, and stakeholders worldwide through clear, consistent, and compelling messaging.
Our team combines deep regional expertise with global best practices to create localized communication strategies that resonate in diverse markets. We work cross-functionally with business leaders, product teams, and regional stakeholders to distill narratives that build trust, drive engagement, and support business growth.
We're looking for communicators who can help shape how millions of customers and employees around the world experience Amazon.
Basic Qualifications
- 15+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Experience in Business English and Japanese skills, both verbal and written
- Background in developing strategic communications plans, for both proactive and issues use cases
- Track record of successfully managing corporate PR campaigns, and in working with journalists from a corporate PR perspective
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-tech company, or experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround
- Knowledge of media landscape and emerging media trends in Japan
