As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon’s unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers’ businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon’s real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.
Join Amazon's Just Walk Out (JWO) team where we're revolutionizing brick-and-mortar retail by eliminating checkout lines - something shoppers have disliked for centuries. We're not just envisioning a world without checkout lines; we're actively building and scaling this reality. This role offers a unique opportunity to solve complex, previously unsolved challenges in physical retail through innovative problem-solving, technical design, and coding expertise.
As a Software Development Engineer II on our team, you'll contribute to technology that blends artificial intelligence and computer vision to create seamless shopping experiences. You'll design and develop solutions that address architectural bottlenecks while creating customer-focused innovations. This is your chance to make a significant impact on how millions of people shop, working on a domain that's truly new to the world.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable software solutions that address architectural bottlenecks in the Just Walk Out technology, ensuring high performance and reliability for brick-and-mortar retail applications
- Contribute significantly to the full software development lifecycle including scoping, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance while demonstrating operational excellence
- Solve complex, previously unsolved challenges in retail environments by applying strong technical design skills and creating innovative solutions that enhance the customer experience
- Actively participate in the code review process, providing meaningful feedback to team members and ensuring high-quality software development standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware engineers, and product managers to integrate AI and computer vision technology into retail environments
A day in the life
Your day starts with a quick team stand-up to align priorities and discuss any blockers. You might spend the morning reviewing code from teammates or deep-diving into optimizing services that power the Just Walk Out technology. After lunch, you'll collaborate with product managers to refine requirements for new features that enhance the in-store shopping experience. You'll write clean, efficient code, run tests to ensure quality, and work through complex technical challenges with your peers. Throughout the day, you'll balance new feature development with operational excellence, ensuring our systems remain reliable for shoppers in stores worldwide.
