Amazon Fresh Grocery Partnerships JP seeks an experienced leader to head our Category Merchant Management (CMM) team, driving growth of our ultra-fast delivery Grocery Marketplace with external grocery retailer partners. You will lead a team of Category Merchant Managers while owning merchant relationships and P&L responsibility for Amazon's grocery marketplace in Japan.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape one of Amazon's fastest-growing businesses, leading a team that drives operational excellence and growth with our strategic grocery partners. You will be responsible for developing merchant strategies, delivering business results, and building strong partnerships that enhance Amazon's grocery offering for Japanese customers.
Key job responsibilities

Strategic Account Management:

  • Own P&L and business performance metrics for the JP merchant portfolio
  • Lead strategic planning and execution with merchant partners
  • Drive merchant adoption of new programs and capabilities
  • Establish and maintain C-level relationships with key partners
  • 2. Operational Excellence
  • Own end-to-end merchant business operations including selection, pricing, and availability
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Tech, Operations, and other locales’ GP CMM teams
  • Analyze performance metrics and implement data-driven improvements

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and develop a team of Japan Category Merchant Managers
  • Build high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, and career development
  • Drive team culture focused on operational excellence and results
  • Set clear objectives and performance metrics for team members
    About the team
    You will lead a talented team of Category Merchant Managers while working closely with Product Managers, Program Managers, Marketing Managers, and Operations teams. Our team is at the forefront of innovating the grocery shopping experience for Japanese customers.
    This role requires strong leadership capabilities, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to drive results through others. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, able to think strategically while executing tactically, and passionate about raising the bar for customer experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of retail or operations experience
  • Experience leading teams and driving results through team members
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization
  • Experience with business analysis and P&L management
  • Fluent in English and Japanese, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in e-commerce, retail or advertising
  • Experience building, managing and coaching a team in a high-growth environment
  • MBA, or Advanced degree
